About Omonar

A news site for people who actually feel things about Korean culture, the kind who gasp out loud at comeback teasers.

Omonar is a news site for people who keep a running list of restaurants they’ll visit the next time they land at Incheon, have opinions about which photocards are actually worth trading, and still get goosebumps on the fourth listen of a comeback. We cover K-pop and everything it keeps bleeding into: fashion, food, beauty, and the thousand smaller moments that have made Korean culture the loudest export of the last decade.

There are plenty of sites that will tell you which group dropped a teaser today. We’re more interested in why it matters, who made it, and what it says about where the industry is going next.

What we cover

K-Pop. The music, the comebacks, the choreography, the companies, and the parts of the industry that don’t fit neatly into a press release.

K-Drama. Reviews, recaps, casting news, and the shows worth your weekend, plus the writers, directors, and studios quietly reshaping what Korean television looks like.

K-Beauty. Skincare and cosmetics past the buzzwords: routines that work, launches that don’t, and the formulators behind both.

Food. Seoul restaurants, convenience-store finds, home-cook ajummas with a grip on TikTok, and Korean-American chefs reshaping menus stateside.

Style. Stage looks, airport looks, street looks. What the stylists are actually buying, and who’s quietly dressing the biggest names before anyone else notices.

Culture. Film, literature, internet language, fandom behavior. The stuff that makes Korea feel Korean, not just exportable.

Omonar Asks. Our interview series. Real conversations with the people shaping what we cover, on the record, at length, without the PR polish.

The Omonar Desk

We’re a small, opinionated desk based between Seoul, NYC, and the group chat. Most pieces run under “The Omonar Desk” because most pieces are a team effort: reporting, editing, and fact-checking pass through more than one set of eyes before anything ships. When a story calls for a voice we don’t have in-house, we bring in guest writers and credit them by name.

How we work

We aim for accurate. We link to primary sources when we have them, we credit the reporting that broke a story before us, and we run corrections publicly when we get something wrong. If you spot one, send it to desk@omonar.com and we’ll fix it.

We write quickly but we don’t publish without a second set of eyes. We don’t take freebies in exchange for coverage, and we disclose when a piece involves a product we were sent or an event we were flown to. Editorial decisions are ours alone.
