Terms of Use

Welcome to Omonar. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the website at omonar.com and any related services we provide (together, the “Site”). By visiting the Site, subscribing to our newsletter, or otherwise using any of our services, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Site.

1. Who we are

Omonar is a news and culture publication. We currently operate under the trade name “Omonar” (not a registered company). You can reach us any time at desk@omonar.com.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Site. If you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you must be at least 16. If you’re under the applicable age, please don’t use the Site or send us any personal information.

3. Our content

All editorial content on the Site (including articles, photographs, illustrations, layouts, graphics, newsletter copy, and the look and feel of the Site) is owned by Omonar or licensed to us, and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws.

You’re welcome to read the Site, share links to individual articles, and quote briefly from our work with clear attribution. That’s journalism working as intended. You may not:

  • Republish our articles in whole or in substantial part without written permission.
  • Scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract content from the Site at scale.
  • Use our content to train machine-learning models, large language models, or any other AI system without our express written permission.
  • Remove or alter copyright, trademark, or attribution notices.
  • Frame or mirror the Site so it appears to be your own.

4. Third-party content and links

Our articles frequently link to external sites: streaming platforms, social media, record labels, artists’ own pages, publications we’re citing. Those sites are operated by third parties and subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We don’t control them, we don’t endorse everything they publish, and we’re not responsible for their content.

Likewise, embedded media (YouTube videos, Instagram posts, tweets, and the like) is served by the relevant platform and is subject to that platform’s terms.

5. Pitches, tips, corrections, and other submissions

If you send us a pitch, tip, correction, newsletter reply, or other message (a “Submission”), you agree that:

  • The Submission is yours to share: you have the rights to everything in it, and sharing it with us doesn’t violate anyone else’s rights.
  • You grant Omonar a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, sub-licensable license to use, edit, excerpt, translate, publish, and archive the Submission as part of our coverage, in any medium now known or later developed.
  • We’re not obligated to publish, respond to, or keep your Submission confidential, but we will exercise editorial judgment and common decency.

If you want to share something strictly off the record or on background, say so explicitly at the top of your message; we’ll honor standard journalistic conventions about source handling.

6. Newsletter

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you’re asking us to email you. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email, or by writing to desk@omonar.com. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your email address.

7. Acceptable use

When using the Site, you agree not to:

  • Break, disrupt, overload, or try to gain unauthorized access to the Site or any system connected to it.
  • Use bots, scrapers, or other automated means to access the Site except as permitted by our robots.txt.
  • Impersonate Omonar, our staff, or any other person or entity.
  • Harass, threaten, or send abusive content to us, our contributors, or anyone we cover.
  • Use the Site for anything illegal.

8. Trademarks

“Omonar,” the Omonar logo, “Handle With Sparkle,” and related marks and taglines are trademarks of Omonar. “오모나!” is used as a tagline. Other trademarks mentioned on the Site belong to their respective owners.

9. Copyright complaints (DMCA)

If you believe something on the Site infringes your copyright, please send a notice to desk@omonar.com that includes:

  • Your physical or electronic signature.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
  • Identification of the specific material on the Site you claim is infringing, with a URL.
  • Your contact information (address, phone, email).
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner, or authorized to act on behalf of the owner, of the copyright.

We may remove the material and, in appropriate circumstances, terminate access for repeat infringers.

10. Disclaimers

THE SITE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS. WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, ABOUT THE SITE OR ITS CONTENT, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. K-pop moves fast; we work hard to be accurate and to update when new information comes in, but we don’t guarantee that every detail on the Site is current or error-free. Nothing on the Site is legal, medical, financial, or professional advice.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OMONAR AND ITS CONTRIBUTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SITE. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SITE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100).

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Omonar harmless from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your use of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

13. Governing law and venue

These Terms, and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or the Site, are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the exclusive venue for any such dispute is the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for material changes, note them on the Site or in the newsletter. Continuing to use the Site after changes take effect means you accept the new Terms.
