BTS, Madonna, Shakira, and Justin Bieber Named for First-Ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show
FIFA and Global Citizen have confirmed the full lineup for the first-ever halftime show at a World Cup Final, set for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. BTS, Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, and Burna Boy will all perform, with conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the P.S. 22 Chorus rounding out an 11-minute set curated by Coldplay's Chris Martin.

BTS will take the stage alongside Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, and Afrobeats star Burna Boy at the first-ever halftime show in FIFA World Cup Final history, scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The announcement completes a lineup that spans pop, Latin, K-pop, R&B, and Afrobeats, a deliberate choice that reflects how FIFA and co-organizer Global Citizen are thinking about the event's cultural reach.

FIFA confirmed Bieber and Burna Boy as the final additions on July 8, joining the previously announced trio of Madonna, Shakira, and BTS. The show runs 11 minutes, a tight window that also includes conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the P.S. 22 Chorus, a well-known youth choir from Staten Island. Coldplay's Chris Martin serves as curator, a role that, at least on paper, suggests some connective tissue between the acts rather than a simple back-to-back format.

The halftime show concept itself is the story here as much as the names. The World Cup Final has traditionally been a purely sporting occasion; FIFA has long resisted the kind of entertainment programming the NFL built around the Super Bowl. What changed is partly the commercial logic of a tournament that, for the first time, expands to 48 teams and is hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, a market where the Super Bowl halftime show model is both culturally legible and commercially proven.
For K-pop, BTS's inclusion at this specific event carries a particular weight. The group has performed at stadium-scale events in the United States before, and individual members have maintained active solo careers while others complete mandatory military service. Their appearance here puts K-pop on a stage that reaches an estimated audience of over a billion viewers, a platform no awards ceremony or streaming event has matched.
The New York Times noted that the World Cup Final has long functioned as a once-every-four-years global gathering, distinct from virtually any other live broadcast. What FIFA is now testing is whether the addition of a structured entertainment moment can deepen that cultural footprint without diluting the sporting occasion itself. The 11-minute constraint suggests some care in that balance, this is not a Super Bowl-length production.
Whether the format holds up under the pressure of that compressed runtime, and whether a lineup this diverse can cohere in less than a quarter hour, will be answered on July 19.
