Kickflu released their 4th mini album 'My First Kick' on April 6, debuting the title track 'I Want to Get on Your Nerves' (눈에 거슬리고 싶어), a hyperfunk dance song built on the group's signature blend of playful flirtation and genuine vocal power. But what stood out at the group's showcase wasn't just the music; it was what leader Kyehoon said about why they made it: "I want more people to notice us, just like the song title says. It might seem lighthearted, but we wanted to become known."

That statement cuts to the heart of where Kickflu stands after their rapid rise. The JYP Entertainment group, which debuted in January 2025, exploded into the mainstream consciousness through Korean variety shows. Kyehoon, in particular, became a viral phenomenon with his "flirting expert" persona, a playful, fearless character that earned him the affectionate neologism "Gyehral" (계랄, blending his name with the Korean word for bubbly). It's a golden ticket for any young idol: early TV exposure, instant fanbase, charisma that translates across formats. But it also carries a risk: being seen as a variety entertainer first and a musician second.

This album, Kyehoon explained, was partly a response to that ceiling. For the new cycle, he expanded his persona into "Kickral" (킥랄), a group-wide rebrand that carries the same energy but anchors it in the team's identity. "I'm grateful people recognized me as a 'flirting expert,' but that concept, along with 'Gyehral', was a deliberate choice to imprint our group on the public," he said. "Now it's everyone's concept, and I hope 'Kickral' becomes bigger and more recognized through this activity."

The title track, composed and written by Kyehoon, leans into their strengths: a high-energy dance number with that signature Kickflu boldness, wrapped around the narrative of persistent, unapologetic interest. The album also features pre-release single "Twenty," plus "Stupid," "Backwards," and four other tracks, with all members contributing to songwriting and arrangement. It marks their first comeback since maknae Donghyun turned 19, making the entire group legal adults, a milestone the members took seriously.

"We're in our early 20s now, so we wanted to express emotions and the freshness that young people our age feel," Kyehoon said. Donghyun added, "I think we look a lot cooler now. We're going to show a more mature side now that we've come of age."

The group's first viral success came last October, when "The Song We Sing for the First Time" claimed their first-ever music show win on KBS's 'Music Bank.' They've made a public pledge to deliver a "perfect encore stage" if they win with the new title track, a bet that reflects their confidence and, perhaps, a touch of that entertainment DNA that got them here in the first place.

What impressed observers most at the showcase, though, wasn't the theatrics. It was the musicianship. All members performed the new song with hand microphones, delivering live vocals with visible ease and confidence. Donghwa noted that this was the first time each member had been given their own handheld mic, signaling a shift toward more ambitious live production. And when asked about their dual reputation, variety entertainment versus serious music, member Juwang put it plainly: "A lot of people got to know us through entertainment shows first, but we want it to be clear that Kickflu performs well, that we have strong performances and live vocals. That's what we'd like you to know about us."
