Yoo Ah-in Resurfaces in Photobooth Photos With a Close Friend During Public Hiatus
Actor Yoo Ah-in has surfaced in candid photobooth images shared on social media by a close friend, a fashion brand CEO, offering a rare glimpse of the actor since his drug conviction was finalized. The photos, which show the two men in relaxed, playful poses, have drawn significant attention given Yoo's ongoing public hiatus. Speculation about a potential industry return has also grown after he was spotted at a VIP film screening last month.

Actor Yoo Ah-in appeared in a set of photobooth images circulating on social media this week, the most candid look at him since his drug conviction became final. The photos were posted by the CEO of a Korean fashion brand identified only as "V," a longtime friend of Yoo's, and spread quickly across fan communities and online forums.

In the images, both men are dressed in matching white tops. Yoo is wearing a blue baseball cap pulled low, with his hair slightly disheveled. The two are photographed leaning into each other, making eye contact at close range, and at one point the brand CEO playfully moves in as if to kiss Yoo on the cheek. The CEO captioned the post with an affectionate phrase directed at Yoo, calling him his older brother and expressing warmth. The photos have a relaxed, off-guard quality that stands in contrast to the formal, managed appearances most Korean actors make during a hiatus.

Yoo and the V brand CEO have been publicly known as close friends for some time. Yoo has been photographed wearing the brand's products on multiple occasions, which drew earlier attention to their relationship.
The photobooth post follows another sighting last month, when Yoo attended a VIP screening of the film Hope, directed by Na Hong-jin, at Megabox COEX in Seoul's Gangnam district. He did not stand at the press photo wall, but was seen inside the venue greeting acquaintances and smiling. He attended alongside director Jang Jae-hyeon of Exhuma, and the pairing prompted speculation about a possible return to work.

That speculation has taken a more concrete shape with reports that Yoo's name has been mentioned in connection with director Jang's next project, Vampir. The production company involved has said no casting decisions have been confirmed.

The background here is worth keeping in mind. Yoo Ah-in was indicted on drug-related charges covering a period from September 2020 through early 2022, involving habitual use of propofol, illegal prescriptions for sleep medication, and marijuana use while in the United States. After roughly two years of proceedings, the Supreme Court upheld a sentence of one year in prison, suspended for two years, along with a fine of two million won. He has been on hiatus since the charges became public, stepping back from all professional activity.

How the industry treats actors returning from a drug conviction has rarely followed a clear pattern in Korea. The legal outcome here, a suspended sentence rather than prison time, leaves the practical question of re-entry largely to individual productions and their investors. The distributor attached to Vampir has not confirmed anything, and that caution is probably deliberate given the sensitivity involved. For now, the photobooth images and the screening sighting are the most anyone outside Yoo's immediate circle has seen of him in months.
