NewJeans' 2026 Return Is Basically a Dead End, Sources Say

NewJeans has no comeback schedule, no teasers, and no confirmed next step. ADOR told a Seoul court this month that ongoing litigation is slowing activity, with 2026 nearly gone.

NewJeans has no comeback album, no teaser content, and no scheduled next step, and the window to change that before year-end is closing fast.

At the fifth hearing of ADOR's damages lawsuit against Danielle and her family and former CEO Min Hee-jin, heard at the Seoul Central District Court on the 10th, Danielle's legal team asked whether a NewJeans activity plan actually existed. ADOR's response: "The lawsuit may be causing delays in resuming activities, but it's not that there are no plans at all." That's a half-denial, and it's the most honest thing anyone attached to this situation has said out loud.

How it got here

To recap the wreckage: ADOR won its exclusive-contract validity suit against the NewJeans members late last year, then announced that Haerin, Hyein, and Hanni would return to the label. Minji was described as "in ongoing discussions." Danielle was cut entirely, with ADOR citing her as unable to continue as a member. The label also said it would pursue legal liability against Danielle's family and Min Hee-jin for what it called their central role in the group's breakdown.

After that, the four-member version of NewJeans, Minji, Hanni, Haerin, Hyein, looked like it was slowly rebuilding. In April, fans spotted Haerin and Hyein in Copenhagen. Documents that spread online appeared to show a recording studio there booked under ADOR's name from the 13th to the 17th of that month, and sighting reports with photos placed the two at a LEGO store. ADOR confirmed the visit, calling it "part of a pre-production process to capture a new musical narrative" and saying members were preparing "according to each member's condition and optimized schedule."

In May, the NewJeans official account posted a birthday message for Minji alongside photos of cookies she had baked, which she had apparently handed out at a fan birthday café she visited in person. Small move, but fans clocked it as a sign she was still engaged.

Then in July, ADOR dropped a surprise short film to mark NewJeans' fourth debut anniversary: all four members on screen together, joining hands one by one. It was the first team content in roughly two years, since the Japanese debut single Supernatural in summer 2024, and the imagery read as deliberately reassuring.

None of it connects to an actual comeback

Here's where it falls apart. Every one of those moments, it turns out, is disconnected from a comeback album.

Haerin's individual schedule? Pre-existing Dior ambassador commitments, unrelated to resuming group activities. The anniversary film? A gesture toward fans, not a comeback signal. The Copenhagen trip? A songwriting camp, useful background, possibly a foundation for something later, but not currently linked to any comeback record.

The timing is suspicious only in the sense that ADOR let all of it accumulate without correcting the impression it created. Now, with the Chuseok holiday just passed and the year nearly done, the math is brutal: a 2026 comeback would require teaser content no later than November at the absolute latest. There is no teaser content. There is no confirmed schedule. ADOR is reportedly not denying this.

The deeper problem, according to sources, is structural. With Min Hee-jin gone from ADOR, NewJeans' standing within HYBE has weakened considerably. There are concerns inside the label about how a comeback would be received given the negative spotlight the group has carried through two years of legal disputes. Those concerns are making internal discussions about album direction and activity planning genuinely difficult, which is why the pace isn't picking up.

A group with no creative leadership consensus, a parent company with reasons to be cautious, an ongoing lawsuit that one side has now admitted is slowing things down, and a calendar with maybe ten weeks left. The four-member NewJeans comeback is not cancelled, ADOR was clear about that in court. But right now it's going nowhere fast.
