BTS Is the Only Foreign Artist to Hit Oricon's 1 Million Point Mark Three Times
BTS's fifth Japanese studio album ARIRANG has crossed one million points on Oricon's combined album ranking, making BTS the first and only foreign artist to achieve that milestone three times. On the same day, their 2020 single Dynamite surpassed one billion cumulative streams in Japan, the first foreign song to reach that figure on Billboard Japan's combined chart.

BTS has set two new records in Japan simultaneously, as their fifth Japanese studio album ARIRANG crossed one million points on Oricon's combined album ranking on August 12, with Big Hit Music confirming the milestone. It is the third time the group has reached that threshold on the same chart, a feat no other foreign artist has managed.
Oricon's combined album ranking aggregates physical album sales, digital downloads, and streaming volume into a single point score. Only two other acts have ever hit the one-million-point mark on that chart: Japanese groups Snow Man and Mrs. GREEN APPLE. BTS is now in that company, and remains the only non-Japanese act on the list.
The two previous BTS albums to cross the mark were BTS, THE BEST, the group's Japanese best-of compilation, and MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 ~ THE JOURNEY ~, their fourth Japanese studio album. That ARIRANG follows them into that category is notable partly because of how quickly it accumulated points after its release earlier this year.
ARIRANG had already been performing well in Japan well before this week's figure. In Oricon's mid-year rankings for 2026, the album topped both the standard album ranking and the combined album ranking. Its physical sales alone exceeded 700,000 copies in the first half of the year, a volume that no album had reached in an Oricon mid-year ranking since Queen's Japanese compilation Jewels in 2004. The combined ranking saw ARIRANG surpass 800,000 points in the first half, a first for a foreign artist and only the third time overall, following King & Prince and Snow Man.
Separately, Billboard Japan reported that Dynamite, the all-English single BTS released in August 2020, has now crossed one billion cumulative streams in Japan. The count draws from major Japanese platforms including Amazon Music, Spotify, and Line Music, combined with YouTube Music data provided by the global music analytics firm Luminate. No other foreign song has reached one billion streams in Japan under Billboard Japan's methodology, and among BTS's own catalogue, it is the most-streamed single in the country.
Dynamite has a particular place in the group's history. It debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 dated September 5, 2020, the first time a K-pop group had topped that chart. In Japan, the song finished second on Billboard Japan's annual Hot 100 for 2021. That a six-year-old single continues to accumulate streams at this scale gives some measure of how durably the song embedded itself in the Japanese market.
For BTS, who are in the middle of a staggered return from mandatory military service, the Japan figures offer a concrete data point on where the group stands commercially ahead of any coordinated group activity. The Japanese market has historically been one of their most consistent revenue bases, and these two milestones arriving on the same day suggest that base remains intact.
