TWICE's Chaeyoung Fires Back at Indoor Smoking Rumors: 'That Was a Drink'

TWICE's Chaeyoung didn't wait long to shut this one down.

On the 12th, she posted directly on her fan platform to address a wave of smoking allegations that had been spreading across Korean online communities. "I was going to let it go, but so many people kept bringing up the cigarette thing, so I'm saying something," she wrote. "It was a drink, not a cigarette. Look closely."

She wasn't done. "I'm just out having fun and I'm exhausted by this. And honestly, does it even make sense? There were so many people there, would I really do that out in the open? I'm not that thoughtless."

The accusation traces back to a video filmed on the 11th at a rave party held at Seoul's Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), where Chaeyoung had shown up to enjoy the music. The event was headlined by FKA Twigs. Shot from behind, the clip showed Chaeyoung repeatedly lifting something to her mouth, and some viewers decided that meant a cigarette.

It apparently didn't take long for the rumor to gain traction. By the time Chaeyoung responded, enough people had sent her the allegations that she felt compelled to break her silence herself, rather than leave it to JYP Entertainment.

Her explanation is straightforward: she was holding a drink. She also made clear she finds the whole thing draining, which is fair, being accused of breaking indoor smoking laws based on a blurry back-of-head video is a specific kind of frustrating.

Meanwhile, TWICE just wrapped the finale of their THIS IS FOR world tour, playing two nights at KSPO DOME in Seoul. Whatever Chaeyoung was holding at that rave, she's got bigger things on the calendar.
