NewJeans Are Still 5: Danielle's Birthday Wish for Hanni Has Fans Emotional

A photo of Hanni's back. A honey emoji. That's all Danielle posted to her Instagram Story for Hanni's birthday, and it was enough to send fans into a spiral.

With NewJeans' future still unresolved amid the ongoing legal dispute between HYBE and former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin, any visible sign of the five members staying connected lands differently than it would under normal circumstances. A casual birthday shoutout becomes something closer to a statement.

Fan reactions in the original post thread ran almost entirely in one direction: longing. "I miss them as a full group," one comment read. Several others just posted crying emojis. "NewJeans are 5," one commenter wrote, as if saying it out loud might make it more real.

The post itself was low-key to the point of being almost deliberately understated. No caption beyond the emoji, no text overlay, just Hanni from behind. Whether that restraint was intentional or just how Danielle rolls, it hit harder for the simplicity.

Hanni, happy birthday. Fans are clearly counting the days until they see all five of them in the same room again.
