Lee Seung-gi and Contractor Clash Over 16 Million Won Payment, Legal Challenges Follow
Lee Seung-gi is entangled in a complex legal battle involving late payments for construction work on his new building in Seoul. The singer-actor is facing allegations of financial misconduct as claims of security deposit fraud emerge.

Lee Seung-gi, the multifaceted singer and actor, is currently facing a barrage of legal challenges stemming from his construction project in Seoul. The situation escalated recently when a subcontractor, referred to as Company A, filed a lawsuit against P Construction, the firm initially hired for the project. Company A claims it has yet to receive 16 million won (approximately $12,000) for work completed, prompting legal actions against both P Construction and Lee Seung-gi himself.

Back in January 2022, Lee Seung-gi purchased a plot in Jangchung-dong with plans to construct a residential building. He entrusted the project to P Construction, under the management of Cha Ga-won. While construction has finally concluded, reports suggest that payment for the project was delayed, with Lee's team claiming that they only made partial payments after multiple setbacks throughout the process. P Construction has indicated that they will not hand over the building until all outstanding payments, including late fees, are settled, which has led to heightened tensions.

Furthermore, Lee Seung-gi has filed a lawsuit against Cha Ga-won for embezzlement, alleging that funds from his previous agency, Big Planet Made, were also misappropriated. Amid this turmoil, he also faces claims of fraud for failing to return a security deposit of 10.5 billion won (about $8 million) for a luxury rental property in Hannam-dong, which has not been refunded despite the lease ending.
In a shocking turn, a recording of Cha Ga-won’s conversation with a YouTuber surfaced, in which he accused both Lee Seung-gi and other industry figures of being potential targets for damaging revelations. Cha claimed, “I could destroy Lee Seung-gi, but there’s nothing to gain from it. If I expose him, it could ruin everyone around him,” shaking up the already volatile situation.
On top of the constructions disputes, Cha Ga-won is under scrutiny for receiving an advance payment of 24.2 billion won (approximately $18 million) for celebrity intellectual property projects that allegedly never materialized. This has already led to his arrest on fraud charges, amid calls for further investigation into the scale of the financial discrepancies involved.
As tensions mount between these prominent industry figures, Lee Seung-gi’s robust legal actions signal a serious commitment to addressing what he perceives as financial misconduct. Given the complexities and public nature of these allegations, this legal battle might forge new precedents in how contracts and disputes are handled within the K-pop industry.
