Matt Damon Wore a Kiwoom Heroes Jersey to a KBO Game: Here's Why

Matt Damon arrived in South Korea on July 1 and, rather than heading straight to a hotel, went to a baseball game. Within hours of landing at Gimpo International Airport, the Hollywood actor was spotted in the stands at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, wearing a Kiwoom Heroes jersey, watching the Heroes take on the SSG Landers in the 2026 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League.

The reason, it turns out, is a name. Damon had come to cheer for Kiwoom's foreign-roster hitter Matt Davidson, whose surname rhymes closely enough with 'Damon' that the actor apparently decided a ballpark visit was in order. It is the kind of lighthearted detour that press tours rarely produce, and it landed immediately.

Damon made the trip with director Christopher Nolan and actress Charlize Theron, all three of whom flew into Gimpo together. Broadcast cameras caught Damon in the stands doing a finger-heart gesture toward the crowd and clapping along to the game, standard fare at a KBO stadium, but considerably less standard coming from one of Hollywood's more recognizable faces in a home team uniform.

Universal Pictures Korea, the film's local distributor, posted photos of Damon at the game on its official social media accounts, leaning into the moment as promotional texture ahead of the film's Korean release.

The visit is the opening act of a fuller press schedule. Damon, Nolan, and Theron are set to meet Korean fans and media through a press conference and red carpet event tied to Odyssey, Nolan's latest film, which follows the hero Odysseus on his journey home after the Trojan War. The film has already crossed $600 million at the global box office and opens in South Korea on The 5th.

For Korean baseball fans, the cameo carries its own small footnote: a foreign actor showing genuine enthusiasm for the KBO, even if the enthusiasm was arguably directed at a specific player's name, reflects how the league's international visibility has grown in recent years. Matt Davidson, for his part, now has an unusually famous supporter in the stands on record.
