Mnet is set to launch its new survival program, Street World Fighter: Director's War, on August 18 at 10 PM KST. This innovative series brings ten accomplished choreographers to the forefront, shifting the focus from dancers to the creators behind the performances.

During a press conference held at the Elienna Hotel in Seoul, PD Choi Jeong-nam emphasized that the show will highlight the artistic journey of choreographers, exploring their creative processes and the narratives they weave through dance. "While past series like Street Woman Fighter and Street Man Fighter spotlighted dance crews, this time we are diving into a 'work war' where choreographers craft individual pieces, competing for a singular 'Director Credit,'" he explained.

The show introduces a gender-inclusive format, featuring notable choreographers such as Ba-da, Nine, Simizu, In-kyu, Baek Ku-Young, Baby Joo, and Casper, who are all set to make their mark on the K-pop and global dance scenes. This represents a significant shift in the Street series, marking its first all-gender competition.

Choi also noted the show’s unique evaluation process, which will feature anonymous voting systems in its primary judging phase. This aims to focus more on the quality of the works produced rather than their creators, encouraging a more equitable assessment of talent.

In this venture, nearly 1,000 dancers, representing both domestic and international backgrounds, will contribute their skills, ensuring grand-scale productions. Participants will be fully accountable for their work, moving beyond the safety of their crews to showcase their individual artistry.

Ba-da, leader of the winning team from Street Woman Fighter 2, expressed his drive to embrace new challenges: "I want to take on this exciting challenge without resting on my laurels. The responsibility of representing my team adds a welcome pressure to deliver something unique."

Baek Ku-Young, who is returning to the competition as a participant after serving as a master on Boys Planet, shared his insights on the stakes, stating, "This isn’t just about my crew; it’s personal. I understand the weight of responsibility involved and aim to push myself further."

The program kicks off with its first challenge titled '1-on-1 Signature Choreography Duel,' where choreographers will have two hours to recreate each other's iconic pieces. Upcoming matchups include Ba-da's "Smoke" against In-kyu's "Like Jennie" and Simizu's against Renan's "Whiplash."

The ultimate winner will be awarded the opportunity to direct the opening stage at Mnet’s prestigious MAMA awards, along with additional support funding to further their directorial career.

Street World Fighter: Director's War promises to offer a deep dive into the choreographers’ creative processes and the importance of direction in live performances, marking yet another evolution in the ongoing Street series. Tune in tonight at 10 PM KST on Mnet and tvN for a glimpse into this groundbreaking competition.
