Song Joong-ki Is Returning to KBS After 10 Years, His First Drama There Since 'Descendants of the Sun'
Song Joong-ki is heading back to KBS for the first time since 'Descendants of the Sun' aired in 2016, with his new romantic comedy 'Love Cloud' confirmed as a KBS2 weekend drama. The show will co-star Park Ji-hyun and is expected to air in the first half of 2026.

Song Joong-ki is going back to KBS, and the gap is exactly as long as it sounds, ten years, no broadcast detours, one clean return.
The actor's upcoming romantic comedy Love Cloud has been confirmed for a KBS2 weekend slot, according to reporting by Hankook Ilbo on May 13. It's slated to follow Moonmoo, one of KBS's more anticipated upcoming titles, with an expected air window in the first half of 2026.
The last time Song Joong-ki appeared in a KBS drama was Descendants of the Sun in 2016, which, if you need a refresher, peaked at a 38% nationwide rating and turned him into something close to a pan-Asian phenomenon. His character Yoo Si-jin locked in his reputation as the gold standard of the Korean romantic lead. In the decade since, he moved through cable and streaming with Vincenzo and Reborn Rich, both of which did well, but broadcast television, and KBS specifically, wasn't on his schedule.
Love Cloud looks like a deliberate gear shift. The drama follows Kang Woo-joo, a former flight instructor, and Ahn Ha-nui, an aspiring pilot, who reconnect seven years later on Jeju Island, now as an air traffic controller and a working pilot, in a setting where, according to the premise, love operates like the weather. Director Song Min-yeop is attached, with writing team Mad Rabbit handling the script.
Park Ji-hyun is confirmed as the female lead. Actors Lee Si-woo and Choi Hee-jin are reportedly in talks to join the cast.
KBS is clearly swinging for back-to-back weekends that matter. Locking Song Joong-ki into the slot right after Moonmoo is a calculated bet, the network wants the momentum to carry. Whether a breezy Jeju romance is the vehicle that gets him there after a decade of darker material is the interesting question, but KBS is probably not losing sleep over it.
