Yoo Jae-suk Gets a Giant Birthday Cake on Air and Immediately Cuts Into It
Yoo Jae-suk received an on-set birthday surprise on the SBS variety show Teukmanna, only to bypass the sentiment and go straight for the knife. The cake, baked with a photo of his face on it, was deemed too large to bring home, so he shared it with the crew on the spot.

Yoo Jae-suk's birthday celebration on the SBS variety show Teukmanna went exactly the way anyone familiar with him might expect: practical, brief, and without a posed photo. The episode, which aired on September 1st, was filmed on August 14th, his actual birthday.
Co-host Yoo Yeon-seok kicked off the taping by walking out with a large decorated cake and singing "Happy Birthday" while Yoo Jae-suk had been calling out wondering where he'd gone. The gesture was warm, but the cake itself gave Yoo Jae-suk pause. "This cake is too big," he said after blowing out the candles.

When Yoo Yeon-seok described it as a custom cake made just for him, Yoo Jae-suk's response was immediate: he wasn't taking it home. "If I bring it home, we can't finish it. Let's just cut it here and eat it on set," he said, reaching for a knife before the sentence was finished.
Yoo Yeon-seok tried to slow him down, pointing out that the cake had a photo of Yoo Jae-suk printed on top, something you weren't supposed to just slice through. Yoo Jae-suk ignored the objection and cut anyway. "Birthdays are meant to be shared. Just slice it," he said. Yoo Yeon-seok lamented that the cut had gone straight through the hand in the photo.
Afterward, Yoo Jae-suk acknowledged, with some candor, that elaborate cake ceremonies aren't really his style. He did take one photo, of the cake alone, not with himself in it, and declined Yoo Yeon-seok's offer to take a photo of the two of them together. He closed the segment by thanking his co-host for the thought.
The exchange is a small moment, but it reflects something consistent about Yoo Jae-suk's public persona over his decades in Korean entertainment: he tends to deflect fanfare toward the people around him rather than sit in it. Teukmanna airs on SBS.
