AKMU's Lee Suhyun Lost 30kg After a Month of Three-Person, One-Room Training Camp With Her Brother
AKMU's Lee Suhyun has shared the story behind her 30kg weight loss, including a grueling month-long training retreat she nearly abandoned. The singer said the only thing that kept her from leaving was not wanting to damage her relationship with her brother and fellow AKMU member Lee Chanhyuk.

AKMU's Lee Suhyun appeared on the YouTube channel Insaeng 84 on the 30th in a segment titled "Suhyun's Day," where she walked host Gi An84 through her five-days-a-week training routine and, in the process, detailed the months of difficult work behind her recently completed 30kg weight loss. The story she shared points to something less familiar than a typical celebrity fitness update: a period of near-total isolation, a cramped shared room, and the relationship that kept her from walking away.
At the training center, Suhyun mentioned she still wants to lose around 7 more kilograms. When Gi An84 asked, somewhat tentatively, whether he could ask her current weight, she cut him off immediately: "That would be rude." The exchange drew laughs before she moved on to her actual workout, which included power training and HYROX-style exercises. "Life is rough," she said at one point, though she finished the session.

The more revealing part of the conversation came when Suhyun described what she called a training camp last January. She, her brother Lee Chanhyuk, and a coach traveled together for an intensive conditioning period, the three of them sharing a single room for a full month while training all day. "At first I desperately wanted to run away," she said, "but I was afraid it would mean cutting ties with my brother, so I couldn't leave." That fear of estrangement, she suggested, was more motivating than any fitness goal.
Before that camp, Suhyun had been living what she described as a hikikomori-style existence, largely withdrawn from the outside world. She said Chanhyuk initially lured her out by showing her an appealing house and proposing they move in together as a sharehouse arrangement, knowing she would bolt if she understood what the training regimen actually involved. Once settled in a standalone house together, she focused entirely on exercise and diet for the better part of a year, eventually re-emerging in noticeably different shape.
On the subject of diet, she was candid about what self-control has looked like for her. She said she doesn't drink alcohol, partly because of a formative early experience: she tried it out of curiosity once, and found that the moment she had a drink, the restraint she ordinarily applied to food dissolved entirely. She kept eating until she was sick. "I thought, if I drink, my body will just fall apart," she said. The episode clarified something for her about the relationship between suppressing one appetite and losing control of another.
Suhyun was careful to add that the weight loss itself was managed healthily. She now eats two meals a day and continues the demanding training schedule not because it feels natural, but because she says self-regulation doesn't come easily to her. "I'm doing things I don't want to do, keeping going," she said. Seeing the results of that effort, she added, gives her a genuine sense of satisfaction.
Suhyun and Chanhyuk debuted as AKMU under YG Entertainment in 2014 after winning K-pop Star as teenagers, and the sibling dynamic has always been central to how the duo operates creatively and personally. The portrait Suhyun painted here, of a brother who essentially engineered the conditions for her transformation, is consistent with that pattern, even if the methods were, by her own account, not entirely disclosed in advance.
