Jeon Hyun-moo Earns 4 Billion Won a Year: A Matchmaking Agency Just Gave Him a 1 Out of 10

A matchmaking agency consultant looked at Jeon Hyun-moo, a broadcaster who reportedly pulls in 3 to 4 billion won a year, and gave him a 1 out of 10 on age. Then a 1 out of 10 on looks. The income did not come up in his favor.

The segment aired on KBS2's variety show Sajangnim Gwineun Dangnaegwi (roughly, The Boss Has Donkey Ears). Chef Jeong Ji-seon arranged the evaluation as a workplace perk of sorts, bringing staff along to get Jeon's "objective" grade assessed by matchmaking agency CEO Cha Hee-yeon.

Cha's verdict on age was immediate. Jeon was born in 1977, which puts him right on the edge of his fifties. "He's about to enter his 50s, so the age score is the lowest possible: 1 point," she said. Jeon pushed back, invoking Korea's man nai system (the international age standard, which makes him slightly younger on paper) and declaring himself a "Young Forty." Cha did not budge.

The looks evaluation went about the same way. Jeon reportedly claimed full marks for himself, and fellow panelist Kim Sook backed him up. Cha shut it down with a single reference: "Jeon Hyun-moo is not Byun Woo-seok." For context, actor Byun Woo-seok is currently one of the most visually celebrated men in Korean entertainment. The comparison was not meant as a compliment.

The finishing blow came from an unexpected corner. Lee Young-pyo, a former professional footballer and Jeon's same-age peer who was sitting in as a special MC, applied what he called cold logic. "If you're 50, looks are irrelevant. Age is 1 point, so looks obviously don't need to be checked, also 1 point," he said, before adding that the distinction between them was simple: "I'm married. You're not." The studio reportedly lost it.

The running estimate on Jeon's income, cited across multiple past programs including the Channel A show I Heard It Through the Grapevine, puts his annual earnings between 3 and 4 billion won when broadcast fees, advertising deals, and event appearances are combined. None of that moved the needle with Cha. On the matchmaking agency's rubric, the math is the math.
