CNBLUE's Lee Jong-hyun Breaks 8-Year Silence: 'I Turned My Back on the World'
Lee Jong-hyun, who left CNBLUE in 2019 following a series of controversies, has returned to social media for the first time in eight years. In a lengthy post, he described years of isolation before quietly rebuilding his life through a career in beauty marketing.

Lee Jong-hyun, the former CNBLUE guitarist who stepped away from public life in 2019, returned to social media on the 10th after an eight-year absence, sharing photographs and a detailed personal statement that offered the first substantive account of where his life has gone since leaving the group.

The post lands at a moment when several figures connected to the scandal-era K-pop industry have begun, cautiously, to reappear in public spaces. Lee's return is more restrained than most: no comeback announcement, no entertainment-adjacent pivot.
"This is Lee Jong-hyun," he wrote, opening the message plainly. "I've left this account empty for eight years." He noted that the account had been hacked and that he is still in the process of requesting corrections to his profile ID and bio. The practical detail was almost beside the point next to what followed.
"There were a few years when I turned my back on the world," he wrote. "After that, I tried to live, so I learned to work."

What he learned to work at, it turns out, is beauty marketing. Lee said he has spent the past eight years building a career in the field, describing it as something that genuinely interests him. "It's small," he acknowledged, "but for eight years I've been finding real satisfaction in beauty-side marketing and doing it professionally." He described his current routine in straightforward terms: meetings, evaluating products, thinking through how to do things better. Morning out, home at night.
"I've come to understand how difficult it is to live an ordinary working life," he wrote. "I think everyone who does it is remarkable."
The photographs he shared showed him at what appears to be an office desk with a laptop open, and separately, spending time against a city night-sky backdrop. There is nothing performative about either image.
Lee debuted with CNBLUE in 2010 and was an active presence in the group throughout the first half of the 2010s. He enlisted for mandatory military service in August 2018. While still serving, in March 2019, he was identified as a member of a group chat that included singers Seungri and Jung Joon-young, both of whom became central figures in a wide-ranging scandal involving the illegal filming and distribution of intimate videos without consent. Lee faced significant public criticism over his association with that chat room. Later the same year, reports emerged that he had sent sexually harassing direct messages to BJ Park Min-jung, and he subsequently withdrew from CNBLUE.
He closed his post with a short statement of intent: "Going forward, I want to communicate with more people as the person Lee Jong-hyun. I hope you have a happy day."
It is a deliberately low-key re-entry, and that seems to be the point.
