"I really hoped they wouldn't leave," UNCHILD's Yeeun said of the fans during the group's long wait between releases, recalling messages like "We'll be here" and "You just have to come back." She spoke at the showcase for the group's second digital single, 'TiNG TiNG', held on the 5th at NOL Theater Hapjeong in Seoul's Mapo District.

The single arrived at 6 p.m. that day, about seven months after the group debuted in April with 'We Are UNCHILD'. The comeback had been pushed back, and member Yvonne said the delay stung because everyone had been waiting for it. The group decided that showing fans a good performance mattered most, so they used the extra time to tighten their preparation.

From introductions to a new side of the group

Yeeun said the debut showcase was about introducing the group, while this one is about showing something new, which brought extra nerves. Na Ha-eun said she was 100% nervous at debut, even in front of reporters, but now mostly wants to tell the group's story and perform. Ako said performing as UNCHILD with her members is the stage she dreamed of since her trainee days.

Asked what changed since debut, Yeeun pointed to having fans. As trainees, she said, the members were busy leaning on one another, but now a single comment can give them strength.

Na Ha-eun named the debut showcase as her most memorable moment, along with the group's first full appearance on Mnet's M Countdown. At the showcase, she said, debut didn't feel real until she saw senior singers she had only watched on TV standing around her. After stepping offstage, the members hugged and cried together, thinking, "We really debuted."

The poison-frog concept and the video

UNCHILD debuted as 'green frogs' (a Korean idiom for people who go against the grain) to mark their identity as a group that defies convention. This time they return as more intense 'poison frogs'. Under the concept of quirky heroes who have landed on Earth, they lean on pop colors, a kitschy sensibility and unpredictable humor. Yeeun described the album as one that tries to capture the members enjoying being different in their own way.

The title track is a French house song built on repeating loops, a hard kick and heavy bass. Mechanical-textured synths, short clipped electronic sounds and a repeating 'TiNG TiNG' hook drive its addictive feel.

The music video opens like a film rather than with the members on screen. Na Ha-eun said the group gasped with hands over their mouths when they first watched it together, and she was happy with how cinematic it turned out. Action acting was harder than dancing, she added, but the director guided them through it. Ako, meanwhile, said she practiced facial expressions a lot to bring out a bouncy, character-like energy, and struck a surprise pose on the spot at the showcase.

Yvonne said the group focused on the concept across visuals, performance and music, and that she hopes to hear the nickname "concept emperor." Closing out, Yeeun hoped 'TiNG TiNG' draws more attention to UNCHILD, and Ako thanked the people who helped the group come back after a difficult stretch.
