Dive Into You, the new time-travel romance starring Kim Ji-yeon, opened to a sharply divided reception: a top-1 ranking by viewership on global streaming platform Rakuten Viki across 109 countries, and ratings below 1% on Korean cable broadcaster Channel A. That split is increasingly familiar for Korean dramas that launch simultaneously on domestic linear TV and international OTT, but the gap here is particularly pronounced for a first week.

The Disney+ and Channel A co-production, directed by So Jae-hyeon and written by Kim Bo-geum and Lee On, is produced by Dexter Pictures and Amuse Entertainment. It premiered on September 26. Within days, Rakuten Viki, which distributes the series internationally, placed it first by weekly viewership across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and India, and second in Oceania and Southeast Asia. As of October 1, the #1 position held across 109 individual countries, a list that includes France, the UK, Brazil, India, the UAE, and Thailand.

What the numbers show

On Disney+ Korea, tracking service FlixPatrol recorded the drama inside the platform's top 10 TV shows continuously from September 28. In Japan, it climbed to the top position in the Disney+ TV show chart on September 29. Meanwhile, GoodData Corporation's FUNdex, which measures combined TV and OTT buzz through news coverage and social media, ranked the show seventh overall as of September 29, with its SNS and news metrics individually placing second.

Channel A's linear numbers tell a different story. Nielsen Korea's paid-platform household ratings came in at 0.3% for episode one and 0.5% for episode two, a figure that represents a negligible audience by any domestic standard. The slight uptick from the first episode to the second was the only bright spot.

The pattern is worth noting in a broader context: Channel A occupies a smaller slice of Korean cable than networks like tvN or JTBC, and dramas on smaller cable channels increasingly depend on streaming to establish themselves, particularly internationally. For a show that Rakuten Viki is positioning as a flagship title, the domestic linear figure is largely incidental to its commercial logic.

The story and what's ahead

The drama centers on twins Yoon Ha-na (Kim Ji-yeon) and Yoon Ha-ru (Jang Se-hyeok), who travel back in time to prevent the death of Jeong Woo-jae (Park Seo-ham), Ha-na's longtime love interest and Ha-ru's close friend. The time-travel mechanism involves an old camcorder the siblings used in high school: diving into water together while holding it sends them back to a moment the camcorder recorded. The twist is that each trip also swaps their bodies, compounding the logistical chaos of what is already a rescue mission.

Outstanding problems heading into episodes three and four include identifying the stalker who threatened Yoon Ha-na and inadvertently caused Woo-jae's death, decoding the rules that determine which recorded moment they land in, and untangling a subplot around Woo-jae's difficult home situation, which the twins only learn about through their trips to the past. Episode three airs on Disney+ on October 3, with a same-day broadcast on Channel A at 10:40 p.m.
