Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon Apologizes for Nearly Missing 20th Anniversary Plans Due to Not Checking Group Chat

Hyoyeon from Girls' Generation apologized for her tendency to miss important group messages while the group prepares for their 20th debut anniversary next year.

On the April 12 broadcast of JTBC's variety show "Please Take Care of My Refrigerator since 2014," Girls' Generation members Tiffany Young and Hyoyeon appeared as guests. When host Kim Sung-joo asked whether they should start planning for their 20th anniversary celebration, Hyoyeon responded that they need to begin planning immediately, praising Tiffany as the plan coordinator for being thorough and a natural leader.

However, Tiffany quickly interjected, saying "But we already planned it," catching Hyoyeon off guard. Tiffany then revealed that Hyoyeon rarely reads their group chat messages, exposing what fans know as Hyoyeon being "the icon of poor communication" within the group.

According to Tiffany, progress cannot be made unless members respond to messages within 48 hours, but Hyoyeon often doesn't read them. Hyoyeon admitted that she dislikes reading long messages, and when 200 to 300 messages pile up, she only reads key points, which often leads to misunderstandings.

This communication issue led to a memorable incident during their 15th anniversary press conference. Tiffany explained that they had agreed to wear neutral tones since the background would be hot pink, but Hyoyeon showed up wearing hot pink herself, creating an unintended chroma key effect. When photos from the event were shown, the show's chefs laughed at what looked like a production error.

Hyoyeon explained, "I was the most confused. I only read the keyword and didn't register why the background was hot pink." Tiffany responded on behalf of the other members, noting that it was especially frustrating since they had just released an album after five years.

Hyoyeon acknowledged that she has learned from Tiffany's approach of asking simple questions with clear deadlines, and claimed she has improved recently, even participating properly in group votes. Tiffany agreed, saying "I'll acknowledge that things have gotten better lately."

Hyoyeon apologized for her delayed responses, while Tiffany expressed gratitude to the show for reminding them about their upcoming 20th anniversary celebration.
