Former Pro Gamer Guillaume Patry Bought Bitcoin Under 1 Million Won: Now He Has a Vacation Home
Guillaume Patry, the Canadian-born broadcaster who has lived in Korea for 27 years, joined KBS2's Superman Returns on the 19th with his three-year-old daughter Lea and addressed long-circulating rumors about his wealth. The former pro gamer, now a full-time investor, revealed he bought Bitcoin when it was trading under one million won and owns a vacation home in Yangpyeong, then insisted he is simply 'comfortable enough to retire.'

Guillaume Patry, the Canadian-born former pro gamer who has lived in Korea for 27 years, joined Superman Returns (KBS2) on the 19th alongside his three-year-old daughter Lea, and used the appearance to address persistent rumors that he is worth hundreds of billions of won. The show's hosts were unconvinced by his denials almost immediately.

Superman Returns is a long-running KBS2 variety program in which celebrity fathers take on solo childcare challenges, airing Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. Patry, who debuted as a professional StarCraft player in the late 1990s before transitioning to broadcasting, has been a recognizable figure in Korean entertainment for decades. His current profession, he explained, is full-time investor.

The wealth question came up quickly. MC Kim Jong-min noted that Patry's marriage proposal to his wife, who is 14 years his junior and whom he married in 2020, reportedly included the line: "I can't promise much else, but I'll make sure you never worry about money." When the production team pressed him directly, asking whether he was really worth tens of billions of won, Patry was careful in his answer.

"A lot of different numbers are floating around," he said. "I've never made a huge amount of money at once, and I've never become fully rich. But I have enough to retire comfortably and live well."
Kim Jong-min's response was immediate: "That means you're a billionaire."

The episode also revealed that Patry bought Bitcoin when it was trading at under one million won per coin. Co-host Ralral noted that Bitcoin now trades at around 92.73 million won, and reacted with visible shock. Patry did not elaborate on the size of his position, but the disclosure clarified a lot about the gap between his modest self-description and the scale his lifestyle implies.
That gap was most visible when the program toured his Yangpyeong vacation home. The two-story property includes a playroom for Lea, a spacious living room and kitchen, and an outdoor swimming pool. Kim Jong-min observed that the house was "so white, as expected for a billionaire's home," and Ralral wondered aloud whether it was a pension guesthouse. Patry clarified that his primary residence is in Seoul and that the Yangpyeong property is a secondary home.

"When I was young I lived in a rural house in the countryside," he said. "Running on the grass, playing in the pool, I loved that. I thought Lea would love it too, so I got a separate vacation home for her."
On the subject of how he got there, Patry offered a straightforward explanation: consistent, long-term investing across real estate, equities, and cryptocurrency. "If you invest well and keep at it for a long time, a vacation home is achievable," he said. He added that he continues to study all three asset classes actively.
The episode's most deliberate moment of comic restraint came when the production team asked Patry to name a specific investment he recommends. He began his answer, "I overwhelmingly recommend...", and the rest was bleeped out. Kim Jong-min and Ralral groaned in unison.

For viewers familiar with Korean variety television, the exchange is a recognizable format: the reluctant disclosure, the host who says what the guest won't, the strategic bleep. What made it land here is that the underlying facts were already apparent. A vacation home with a pool in Yangpyeong, a Bitcoin position bought below one million won, and a proposal premised on financial security do not add up to someone merely comfortable. Patry's version of modesty, it turns out, has a high floor.
