Guillaume Patry and His Trilingual 3-Year-Old Daughter Are Joining KBS2's 'Superman Returns'

Canadian-born broadcaster Guillaume Patry is set to join KBS2's parenting variety series Superman Returns with his 3-year-old daughter Leah, with their episode confirmed to air on the 19th. It marks a natural extension of a television presence Patry has built in Korea over more than a decade, this time with his family in frame.

Patry first became widely known to Korean audiences through JTBC's Non-Summit (비정상회담), a talk show that placed foreign residents at a roundtable to discuss cultural differences, where he appeared as the Canadian representative. He later appeared on travel and lifestyle programs including Where Is My Friend's Home and Neighbors, steadily building a reputation as one of the more recognizable Western faces on Korean variety television. Before his broadcasting career, he was a first-generation professional StarCraft player, which gave him an early foothold in Korean pop culture during the game's dominant years in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

In Korea, Patry also found his life partner. He married Yang Yu-jin, who is 14 years his junior, registering the marriage legally before holding a ceremony in Canada in 2020. A second celebration followed in Korea in 2022, delayed by the pandemic. The couple welcomed their daughter Leah in June 2023; she is now 36 months old.

Leah is already attracting attention ahead of the broadcast. According to reports, she speaks Korean, English, and French, reflecting both the bilingual household her Canadian father comes from and the Korean environment she is growing up in. For a child not yet out of toddlerhood, that kind of early multilingualism is notable, and it gives the Superman Returns producers an obvious thread to pull.

Patry and Leah made a brief appearance on the show earlier this year in March, when Indian-born broadcaster Lucky featured in an episode and the two stopped by as surprise guests. That cameo appears to have been enough to confirm a fuller run on the series.

Superman Returns has aired on KBS2 since 2013 and operates on a rotating cast of celebrity fathers who care for their children without the mothers present for short periods, with cameras following the results. The format has long served as a platform for showcasing multicultural and internationally mixed families alongside its domestic cast, so Patry's addition fits a pattern the show has returned to regularly over its run.
