Hyukoh are moving fast this August. Nine days after dropping Godspeed! on the 18th, the Seoul-based band released their new single KoK at 6 p.m. on the 27th, an 8-minute-27-second piece that functions as a companion track to its predecessor.

The song is built around a theme of paradoxical solitude: the specific, quietly devastating feeling of reaching the top of something and finding yourself more alone than before. At over eight minutes, KoK gives that idea room to breathe rather than rushing toward a resolution, which feels like an intentional choice for a band that has always trusted its listeners to sit with discomfort.

A high-profile co-producer and a live preview

Co-producing alongside Hyukoh is Yu Su, a Canadian artist and producer who earned a nomination for the Polaris Music Prize, one of Canada's most prestigious music awards given annually to the best Canadian album. Her involvement gives KoK an international dimension that sets it apart from a typical domestic release. The band actually previewed the track live at the 2026 Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival on the 1st, so some fans have been sitting with the anticipation for weeks.

A music video with a lot going on

Directed by Song Seo-yun, the music video pairs the unlikely imagery of a school sports day with traditional Korean dance forms including talchum (mask dance) and sajachum (lion dance), building a surrealist visual world that earns attention on its own terms. Artwork for the single was handled by artist Ahn Min-jeong, continuing her collaboration with the band from their previous release, this time drawing on the myth of Sisyphus to trace the arc of a life spent pushing forward.

A collaboration with outdoor sports brand Salomon is also woven into the video, with co-branded pieces making their debut alongside the release.

Two tracks, one new direction

Hyukoh's label, Dururu Artist Company, framed the two August releases as deliberate: "KoK and Godspeed! are two important clues pointing toward the new musical direction Hyukoh is headed in. We released two tracks with completely different genres and styles within the same month, please look forward to seeing what musical world they'll unfold from here."

For fans who have followed Hyukoh through their career-defining run of understated indie-rock, the back-to-back singles suggest something is shifting. Two releases in nine days, spanning different genres, with a Polaris-nominated collaborator in the room: whatever comes next is clearly being built with intention.
