Jeonghan X Joshua, the new SEVENTEEN unit, release their first mini album DREAMSCAPE at 6 p.m. KST on the 19th, with the dance rock title track "12 o'clock" built on reworked 1970s and 80s disco and funk. It is Jeonghan's first album since he completed his military service and was discharged in June, and Joshua's first unit activity since debut.

The seven-track album is themed around two kinds of dreams: the ones you have asleep and the ones you hope to realize while awake. Pledis Entertainment says the title track follows the pair moving between noon and midnight as they chase the thing they dream about. A music video teaser released on the 18th leaned into a surreal mood.

A sound neither singer usually uses

Both members come from SEVENTEEN's vocal team, and both say they changed how they sing. Jeonghan said he tried to use a thicker tone than usual and experimented with different approaches on each song. Joshua said he studied his own voice while recording to find something more mature and unfamiliar, and teased fans to listen and find out. The label describes the result as a pairing of languid, mature vocals over the retro-leaning production.

The duo also wanted to stand apart from SEVENTEEN's existing units. Jeonghan said he and Joshua talked through concept and genre together and consulted staff throughout. Joshua said he took part in the production process too, and that although not every song they worked on made the album, he is happy with the music that did.

Joshua pointed to the stage as the best way in: "It's a song that's even better when you see the performance." He said the choreography was designed to show off the pair's visuals and chemistry. Jeonghan has followed the song since it began as a band track, and said the other members loved it when they heard it early and told the duo it suited them.

Reading the album as one story

Jeonghan hopes the seven tracks feel like a single narrative. He encouraged listeners to interpret what each song means in their own way and to look for hidden metaphors. Joshua added that fantasy and reality interlock throughout, and suggested listening from first track to last as a journey through a dream.

The two trainees joined at around the same time, and Jeonghan described Joshua as someone who keeps developing his own musical identity. They lean on each other when things get hard. Joshua said that long-built teamwork should come through on the record, along with a natural side of them that fans may not know.

Jeonghan admitted to some nerves about his first album activity since returning, but said he mostly wants to meet CARATs as soon as possible. Joshua mentioned that a performance schedule is also coming up.
