Hyunsuk's Shock Exit Sparks Jealousy and Sleepless Nights on Dating Show

The 31st season of 'I Am Solo' delivered drama both on and off the dating venues this week. While contestant Hyunsuk shocked viewers by exiting early due to a family emergency, the remaining singles navigated a minefield of crushes, rejections, and growing jealousy that left the group in turmoil.

The episode, which aired April 15 on ENA and SBS Plus, opened with pairing announcements determined entirely by the female contestants. Three one-on-one dates materialized between Yeongsu and Jeongshuk, Yeongho and Okshun, and Yeongshik and Jeonghee. The male contestants Yeongcheol and Gwangsu received no votes, leaving them out entirely. Meanwhile, Sangcheol secured a two-on-one date with Yeongshuk and Hyunsuk, while the popular Gyeongsu found himself with two women, Sunja and Youngja, who both selected him.

Yeongsu made little effort to hide his discomfort about the pairing, admitting beforehand that Jeongshuk wasn't his type among the female contestants. After their outing, his interest remained flat, and Jeongshuk clearly sensed it. In contrast, Yeongho and Okshun, and Yeongshik and Jeonghee, already emotionally aligned, enjoyed easygoing, genuine dates.

The Sangcheol, Yeongshuk, and Hyunsuk date took an unexpected turn. Hyunsuk received a call from her parents mid-date informing her that a family issue had arisen at home, forcing her to leave immediately and withdraw from the show. Viewers who had noticed her sparse airtime since the season premiere now understood why, her early exit had been planned from the start. By the episode's preview segment, she had vanished entirely from the narrative.

Sangcheol, despite being chosen by the popular Yeongshuk, found himself regretting that Okshun hadn't selected him, suddenly realizing his true feelings lay with her. Gyeongsu, meanwhile, discovered that while his first choice Jeongshuk didn't pick him, he grew increasingly drawn to Sunja during their interaction, despite Youngja also pursuing him steadfastly from the moment they met.

The post-date dynamics grew complicated fast. Yeongshuk signaled boundaries when Gwangsu sought her company, encouraging him to explore other options. Yeongsu meanwhile expressed interest in Sunja, casually mentioning his apartment in Hapjung and office in Yeonnam-dong. Sunja quickly ranked her preferences: Gyeongsu first, Yeongsu second.

When Sangcheol mentioned he had feelings for two people, Okshun stunned everyone by drawing a clear line. Rather than acknowledge herself as his top choice, she deflected, saying she needed to focus on her upcoming date with Yeongho first and felt hurt that Sangcheol had been so blunt about his divided attention instead of making her feel special.

Later, Sangcheol pulled Jeonghee aside to reveal that she had been one of his three initial crushes. Jeonghee admitted Sangcheol impressed her with his constant, engaging conversation, so much so that she questioned whether she even needed to try with Gyeongsu. She showed clear interest in both Yeongshik and now Sangcheol.

Gyeongsu confirmed to Yeongshuk that she had been among his four initial picks and suggested a future date. Yeongshuk, in turn, admitted to having interest in Gyeongsu, Sangcheol, Yeongsu, and Yeongcheol. Fellow contestant Lee I-kyung pointed out the irony, Yeongshuk was essentially ranking the men by who had chosen her, not her own preferences. By conversation's end, Gyeongsu narrowed his focus to just two: Sunja and Yeongshuk, on a 7:3 ratio favoring Sunja.

The episode's preview hinted at emotional turbulence ahead. Sunja confessed she'd lost sleep thinking about Gyeongsu at night, admitting that if she couldn't stop thinking about him, she'd consider the game lost. More dramatically, Jeonghee visibly teared up when she saw Yeongshik growing closer to Jeongshuk, revealing her struggle to stay composed in a situation where she knew he might naturally pursue someone else.

With male-led dates promised for the coming episode, all eyes turned to Gyeongsu's choices. Yeongshik's divided interest between his top choice Jeongshuk and second-choice Jeonghee, combined with Gyeongsu's pull between Yeongshuk, Sunja, and Youngja, set up a web of competing emotions. Cast member Defcon predicted the jealousy would explode all at once.
