IU's Health Crisis, a Last-Minute Single Drop, and One Staff-Protecting Post
IU posted a lengthy letter on fan platform Weverse addressing complaints about the low-key rollout of her two new singles. She took full personal responsibility for the minimal promotion and defended her hair, makeup, and styling team.

IU posted a lengthy, candid letter on fan communication platform Bubble on the 30th, and by the time fans finished reading it, most of the frustration surrounding her recent singles had quietly dissolved.
The letter addressed a cluster of complaints that had been building since she released two new tracks, 이 별로부터 and Dear My Crazy Soulmate, on the 10th. The rollout had been quiet by her standards, with minimal promotions, and a portion of her fanbase UAENA had been vocal about the disappointment.
The decision that was hers alone
IU explained that the subdued promo was not a label oversight or a resource problem. When EDAM Entertainment's marketing team suggested adding more promotional activities to give the drop a proper comeback feel, she was the one who pushed back. Her reasoning: she considered the two tracks a preview single ahead of a full studio album planned for next year, not a formal comeback, and she wanted to conserve promotional energy for that release. The sudden drop itself, she added, was a direct result of health issues that forced her to postpone the album. Rather than leave fans waiting with nothing, she rushed out the singles as a gift to tide them over.
"If anyone felt the promotion for these singles was lacking," she wrote, "that responsibility is entirely mine."
She also apologized for not explaining the situation sooner, noting she had hesitated to break into what was a holiday period for most people with news like this.

In defense of her styling team
The letter went further than the promo issue. Some fans had also raised concerns about her hair and makeup looks during the promotions, and IU addressed those directly too, explaining that she has a contact allergy that places real limits on which cosmetics and fixatives her team can use. Far from criticizing the staff, she described the lengths they go to on her behalf: visiting clinics alongside her, mixing and testing custom formulations on themselves first to confirm they are safe before applying anything to her skin.
What read to some fans as inconsistent or underdone styling was, she clarified, the result of her physical limitations, not a shortfall in her team's skills.
A response that landed beyond the fandom
The letter drew warm reactions well outside IU's core fanbase. Responses circulating online noted that the level of transparency, and her deliberate move to absorb the criticism rather than redirect it toward the label or staff, reflected well on her as a professional. The general sentiment was something close to: it is hard to stay annoyed when someone explains themselves this clearly.
The context matters. Back in July, IU disclosed that a chronic condition called patulous Eustachian tube dysfunction had worsened, forcing her to postpone both her planned September concert at Goyang Stadium and the full album release. At the time she promised to return with the album and live shows as soon as treatment allowed. The two singles released on the 10th were the first music fans had heard since that announcement.
Her post closed with a direct message to UAENA: she knows the affection behind their concerns, and she will pay closer attention to make sure there is less to worry about going forward.
