IU Donates 200 Million KRW Across 4 Charities on Her 18th Debut Anniversary
IU donated 200 million KRW to four charities on the 18th anniversary of her debut, continuing a giving tradition she shares with fans under the name IUaena. The contributions fund youth rehabilitation, housing for veterans, and support for young adults aging out of care.

IU donated 200 million KRW to four organizations on the 18th, the anniversary of her debut, with 50 million KRW going to each recipient: the Korea Social Welfare Society, Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital, the Heart-Heart Foundation, and Korea Habitat. Her agency EDAM Entertainment confirmed the gifts.
The money is allocated along specific lines. The Korea Social Welfare Society funding supports young adults transitioning out of the foster care system. Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital will use its share for children and teenagers who cannot afford the cost of rehabilitation. The Heart-Heart Foundation's portion goes toward living expenses, education, and mental health care for young women in the same self-reliance program. Korea Habitat will channel its allocation into improving the housing conditions of national merit recipients, Koreans recognized for service to the country.
A name that belongs to both artist and fans
IU has made a habit of giving under the name IUaena, a portmanteau of her name and her official fan club Uaena. The practice frames each donation as a shared act between the artist and her fandom rather than a unilateral gesture, and it has held year after year on every meaningful date in her calendar.
This year's giving started on Children's Day, when she donated 100 million KRW for children and teenagers, and continued on May 16, her birthday, with a further 300 million KRW. Added to the debut anniversary donation, her total giving in 2026 reaches at least 600 million KRW. The ceiling here is worth noting: that is a substantial sustained commitment, not a one-time anniversary gesture.
Music and a delayed milestone
On the 10th, IU released a double-title digital single pairing I from This Star with Dear My Crazy Soulmate. Both tracks entered the top tier of major Korean digital charts after release.
The anniversary arrives at a slightly complicated moment professionally. IU recently postponed a planned concert at Goyang Sports Complex after a worsening case of patulous Eustachian tube dysfunction, delaying what would have been the completion of a domestic stadium grand slam. In place of a live stage this weekend, CGV is screening IU Concert: The Golden Hour and IU Concert: The Winning through the 20th, with IU attending six greeting sessions at CGV Yongsan iPark Mall on the 20th.
