Former AOA member Kwon Mina posted a series of urgent messages on social media on the 27th and 28th, disclosing that her mother had been admitted to an intensive care unit and that her older sister remained unreachable. The posts arrived as part of a broader pattern that Kwon Mina has returned to before: using social media to communicate publicly with a sibling who has, for reasons she has not fully explained, cut off contact.

In one post from the 28th, Kwon Mina wrote that her mother's condition was severe enough that doctors had raised the possibility of brain damage or worse if it deteriorated further. She directed her words at her sister: "Don't live with regret. Please reach out. When you find out that what happened to Mom is because of you, will you still be able to look away?"

The 27th posts were more raw. Kwon Mina shared an old photo with her mother alongside a plea for prayers, writing "I'm sorry, my beautiful mom." She also noted that her mother had suffered cardiac arrest and that her sister had not responded to any contact. That post included her sister's name and, according to Korean reports, contained profanity and visible typos, suggesting it was written in considerable distress.

The dispute with police

Unable to reach her sister through family channels, Kwon Mina filed a missing-person report with police. The process did not go smoothly. In a series of follow-up posts, she said officers told her that confirming whether her sister was alive was all they were legally able to do, and that they could not disclose her location or circumstances without her consent.

She described the interaction in pointed terms. "The police are trash," she wrote in one post. "Because I was rambling a bit in this situation, they didn't listen and just hung up the phone." She added that a second officer who called back was similarly unhelpful, though she eventually managed to get the report filed. She specifically called out a team leader-level officer by rank, writing that he was not fulfilling his duties.

Kwon Mina's frustration points to a real constraint in how Korean law handles missing adults. When a person is of legal age, police can confirm they are alive but are generally barred from revealing their whereabouts without consent. For a family member in crisis, that limitation can feel like a wall.

Public reaction

Online reaction was largely sympathetic. Many commenters offered prayers for her mother's recovery. A smaller number questioned whether updating social media was appropriate during a medical emergency, though others pushed back, arguing that her sister might see the posts and that reaching out in whatever way available was understandable given the circumstances.

The online debate remained secondary to the situation itself: as of the 28th, Kwon Mina's mother remained in critical care, and her sister's whereabouts were still unknown to the family.
