Park Bo-gum's Idea, the Whole Cast Said Yes: 'Moonlight Drawn by Clouds' Returns to KBS After 10 Years

Ten years is a long time in Korean entertainment, but the pull of Moonlight Drawn by Clouds hasn't faded. KBS confirmed on August 13 that a two-part anniversary variety special, titled Gureumi Dasi Geurin Dalbbit (roughly, Moonlight Redrawn), will premiere on September 16 at 8:30 p.m. KST, with the second episode following on September 23 at 9:00 p.m.

What makes the announcement genuinely warm is how it came together. According to KBS, it was Park Bo-gum who floated the idea of marking the anniversary, and co-stars Kim Yoo-jung, Jin Young (B1A4), Chae Soo-bin, and Kwak Dong-yeon all agreed without hesitation. The five leads had already traveled together to Hongcheon, Gangwon Province for a two-day, one-night trip on August 4, with the production team describing the atmosphere on set as bright and playful throughout, much like the energy they brought to the original drama.

The 2016 KBS2 fusion historical romance was adapted from a web novel of the same name and followed Crown Prince Yi Yeong and a young woman named Hong Ra-on, who disguises herself as a male eunuch to enter the palace. The chemistry between Park Bo-gum and Kim Yoo-jung drove the show to a peak nationwide rating of 23.3% (Nielsen Korea) and kept it at number one in TV buzz rankings for seven consecutive weeks. The pair later won the Best Couple award at the KBS Drama Awards for their performances.

All five cast members have gone on to become significant figures in the Korean content industry in the decade since. KBS noted in its announcement that the actors who launched their careers as youth stars through Moonlight have now grown into leads of globally recognized K-content, which gives the reunion a sense of looking back from somewhere meaningful, rather than just nostalgia for its own sake.

The special will be two episodes on KBS2: September 16 at 8:30 p.m. and September 23 at 9:00 p.m. For fans of the original drama, it's a rare chance to see all five together again, in a relaxed format that trades palace corridors for a Gangwon countryside trip.
