Kim Ji-won, Kim Yoo-jung and 2 More Stars Dominate October K-Drama
Kim Ji-won, Kim So-hyun, Kim Yoo-jung, and Nam Ji-hyun all premiere new dramas in October 2026. The lineup spans medical thrillers, spy period pieces, campus romance, and an unconventional romcom.

October belongs to the leading ladies. Four of Korean television's most in-demand actresses are each headlining new dramas this month, across genres ranging from hospital corruption to a sex-toy startup romcom, and the breadth of material on offer is genuinely striking even by K-drama standards.

Kim So-hyun kicks things off on October 5
ENA's Monday-Tuesday romance Yeonae Paksa (Love Expert) opens the month, pairing Kim So-hyun with Choo Young-woo in a campus love story set inside a robotics lab. Choo plays Park Min-jae, a doctoral student who lost a leg to illness after a career as a competitive swimmer in high school; Kim plays Lim Yu-jin, a master's student in fashion studies who pivots to a new path after losing her sense of direction.
Anyone who has followed Kim So-hyun through Joseon Romance: Nokdu Flower, It's Useless to Lie, and the Alaram series knows her default register: warm, bright, classically romantic. Lim Yu-jin flips that. She's a so-called jikjin-nyeo, a woman who charges straight ahead, and in the teaser she tells Park Min-jae plainly: "I'm formally confessing. I really like you." It's a line that barely exists in the genre's usual vocabulary, and it sets an interesting tone for what's ahead.
Adding extra weight to the premiere is the fact that Yeonae Paksa is the final directorial work of the late Ahn Pan-seok, widely regarded as one of the genre's finest craftsmen of emotional realism. The combination of his characteristically precise, grounded direction and Kim So-hyun's more assertive turn here is the thing fans are watching closely.

Kim Ji-won's return: the biggest comeback of the season
Kim Ji-won arrives on October 9 with SBS's Friday-Saturday medical drama Doctor X: The Age of the White Mafia. It marks her first small-screen appearance in roughly two years, and expectations are, in a word, enormous. Her previous series Queen of Tears (2024) peaked at 24.9% ratings, still the highest-rated drama in tvN's entire history, which means the bar she has to clear is largely one she set herself.
Doctor X is a medical drama in the satisfying, confrontational tradition: Kim plays Gye Su-jeong, a surgically gifted doctor who takes on institutional corruption inside a hospital. It's her first time leading a pure genre piece without a romantic subplot at the center, and her first medical drama full stop. SBS has its own momentum to consider: Director Kim (Kim Bu-jang) earlier this year peaked at 23.1%, and the network will be hoping Doctor X adds another mega-hit to that count. Whether Kim Ji-won can carry a show on reputation and craft alone, in a harder, colder genre than she usually inhabits, is the season's most interesting open question.

Kim Yoo-jung goes undercover in a period spy thriller
tvN's 100 Days of Lies premieres October 10 as part of the network's 20th anniversary special programming slate, and it's one of the most anticipated dramas of the second half of 2026. The setup: the greatest pickpocket in colonial-era Gyeongseong becomes a spy, infiltrating the Japanese Government-General as a disguised interpreter student, and finds herself face-to-face with an elite interpreter on the other side.

Kim Yoo-jung plays the spy. After the psychological thriller Dear X last year, where she successfully shed her long-running image as the genre's sweetheart in favor of something colder and more dangerous, this role pushes further into moral complexity: a woman living a double life, concealing depths from everyone around her. Kim Yoo-jung has been building her performance range methodically since childhood, and the atmospheric tension of a colonial-period spy romance seems like ideal territory for where she is right now as an actress. Reports suggest she spent considerable time researching the dreams, convictions, and emotional interiority of people from that era, and that care tends to show up on screen.
Nam Ji-hyun tackles the romcom's most unexpected premise
The month closes with Nam Ji-hyun on Tving. The streaming original Let Me Tremble premieres October 15 and is, diplomatically speaking, the season's most unusual entry: it's a romantic comedy about a woman who believes sex requires love, and a man who has always operated by exactly the opposite logic. Nam plays Gong Yeon-su, the eldest daughter of a traditional Confucian family and a marketing professional, who gets romantically entangled with the CEO of a sex-toy startup.

Nam Ji-hyun has delivered strong performances across Little Women, Good Partner, and My Dear Bandit, moving easily between thrillers, workplace dramas, and historical pieces. The bet here is that her grounded, relatable screen presence can carry material that could easily tip into discomfort, and keep it funny and warm instead. Watching a rigidly traditional character collide with a world she wasn't prepared for, and gradually change because of it, is the show's central dramatic engine.
October 2026 is shaping up to be a genuinely competitive month for Korean drama, and the fact that its most anticipated titles are all built around women doing something new is the best possible kind of problem for viewers to have.
