Park Narae's Ex-Manager Arrested for Demanding 10% of Her Revenue as Hush Money

A former manager of Korean comedian Park Narae was arrested on July 16 and formally referred to prosecutors on July 21, facing charges of attempted extortion and embezzlement that have added a sharp new dimension to one of Korean entertainment's most closely watched legal disputes.

Seoul's Yongsan Police Station sent the suspect, identified by the surname Shin, to prosecutors in custody that morning. According to police, Shin allegedly threatened to publicly reveal that Park had used company funds for personal purposes, including transfers to a former boyfriend, then demanded 10% of the company's total 2024 revenue in exchange for his silence. He was arrested on July 16. Separately, Shin also faces allegations of embezzling approximately 30 million won (roughly $22,000 USD) in company funds.

A second former manager, also suspected of attempted extortion in connection with the same scheme, was referred to prosecutors the same day without being taken into custody.

The extortion case is a significant reversal in a dispute that began with allegations running in the opposite direction. In December 2025, former managers went public with a series of accusations against Park: alleged workplace abuse (gapjil), unlicensed medical procedures performed on staff, and misappropriation of company money. Those ex-managers filed a criminal complaint against Park on charges including aggravated assault, defamation by false statement, and violations of information and communications law. Park denied the allegations, filed a counter-complaint on extortion charges, and suspended her public activities.

Park appeared at Seoul Gangnam Police Station on the 20th for questioning and briefly addressed reporters as she left. The investigation into the original allegations against her is still ongoing.

With two former managers now headed to prosecutors on extortion charges and a separate probe still active, the legal picture remains complicated on both sides. Park has been largely absent from television since the controversy began, and there has been no public indication yet of when she plans to resume work.
