Yoo Seung-jun Posts Wife's Photo and Apology After 22 Years
Singer Yoo Seung-jun marked his 22nd wedding anniversary by posting a lengthy public letter to his wife alongside rare photos of her. The post came as a third-round visa appeal is scheduled for ruling on October 2.

Singer Yoo Seung-jun marked his 22nd wedding anniversary on the 25th by posting a lengthy letter to his wife, Oh Yoo-sun, on social media, alongside two photographs that offered a rare public look at her face. The gesture sits against a larger pattern: for most of the past two decades, Yoo's personal life has remained largely out of view while his legal battle to re-enter South Korea has continued in the background.
The post included two images, one showing the couple kissing at their wedding ceremony, another from their younger years with a dog in their arms. Yoo wrote that the relationship traces back 34 years, to a moment outside Tetzlaff Middle School in the United States, when he stared at a girl who turned around and asked, bluntly, "What are you looking at?" He wrote that he had no idea, in that moment, that he was looking at the person he would spend his life with.

A letter about difficult years
The anniversary letter is candid in ways that go beyond the ceremonial. Yoo acknowledged that the marriage has passed through what he described as storms far beyond anything he had anticipated, and credited his wife with carrying burdens no one else could see, "tears no one witnessed, prayers no one heard." He wrote that her unwavering belief in him during the years when the world seemed to turn its back is the reason he is still standing today.
"Thank you for living with someone who isn't easy," he wrote. "It must have been really hard for you."

He described wanting, for however many years remain, to be the person she can lean on, someone who makes her laugh when she is exhausted, and who still looks at her the way he did that first day. The letter closes with a note that will likely resonate with anyone familiar with his wife's longstanding preference for privacy: "I posted a photo without permission again. Sorry. I love you, Yoo-sun."
The couple married on September 25, 2004, and have four children, two sons and two daughters, making a family of six.

The legal context that surrounds everything
Yoo Seung-jun rose to prominence as a singer in South Korea during the late 1990s, but his career there effectively ended in 2002 when he acquired U.S. citizenship shortly before his mandatory military service was set to begin. The move was widely condemned as deliberate draft evasion, and South Korean authorities have since blocked him from re-entering the country.
He has pursued the matter through the courts on multiple occasions. A third-round appeal against the visa denial is scheduled for its ruling on October 2, a date that gives this week's anniversary post an unavoidable backdrop. Whether the court's decision will change anything for him remains to be seen, but for the moment, his public statement is not about the litigation, it is about a marriage that has lasted 22 years, largely out of the spotlight, through circumstances that would have ended most.
