Red Velvet's Wendy is coming back as a solo artist in November, roughly 14 months after her third mini-album, Cerulean Verge. Her agency, Ascend, confirmed the plan on the 14th and shared almost nothing else.

No album title. No release date. No concept. What Ascend did offer was a promise that she will show "music she hasn't shown before," plus a request that fans look forward to it. That's a lot of pressure to hang on a vague sentence.

The gap is easy to measure. Cerulean Verge came out in September last year with six tracks, including "Sunkiss." It was her third solo mini-album, following Like Water in 2021 and Wish You Hell.

What she's been doing in between

Wendy hasn't exactly been quiet. Last year she ran a solo world tour, W:EALIVE, and recently appeared as a special guest at Disney Hits LIVE! at Taipei Music Center in Taiwan, where she sang Disney songs from Mulan, Frozen and High School Musical.

She has also kept up a steady run of drama and film OSTs, including "FLY," "Daydream" and "My Everything." And she still hosts SBS Power FM's Wendy's Young Street, so her voice is on air regularly.

The next live date comes before the album. On the 27th, she plays Power 30 Open Studio: Velvet Concert at Rolling Hall in Hongdae, Seoul. It's a small venue and a natural place to hear whether anything new surfaces.

What to watch

Wendy debuted with Red Velvet in 2014 as the group's main vocalist, and her solo work has leaned on that reputation for live stability. Ascend's pitch repeats it: "unrivaled vocal ability and delicate expressiveness." The more interesting question is the part it skips. If the music really is something new for her, the first teaser will say so faster than any statement can.

For now, the date, title and concept are all still to come.
