Disney+ has confirmed November 4 as the premiere date for The Remarried Empress, its original Korean series adapting the webtoon of the same name, and released a first teaser alongside individual character posters on the 26th. The webtoon had accumulated 2.97 billion cumulative views globally before the live-action was greenlit, making it one of the larger IP bets the platform has placed on a Korean property.

The series centers on Navier (played by Shin Min-a), the empress of the Dongdae Empire, who faces a sudden divorce notice from Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon) after he falls for Rashta (Lee Se-young), a woman who escaped from slavery. Rather than accept the situation quietly, Navier negotiates: she will agree to the divorce on the condition that Sovieshu formally approves her remarriage to Heinrey (Lee Jong-suk), the prince of the Western Kingdom. It is the kind of premise that drove the webtoon's readership, and the drama of that arrangement runs through every frame of the teaser.

What the teaser shows

The footage opens on the Dongdae Empire and introduces Navier in silhouette, composed and still. Sovieshu's early vow to her, that she alone will remain his wife whatever happens, is placed early in the teaser, which then methodically dismantles it: Rashta appears at his side, a bedroom scene shifts from Navier's face to hers, and Sovieshu murmurs that he has missed Rashta as he holds her. The editing is efficient and the emotional stakes land quickly for anyone unfamiliar with the source material.

Heiney enters in the teaser's second half, greeting Navier with the line "It is an honor to meet you, my queen," and the tension visibly pulls in a new direction. Sovieshu watches the two growing closer and reacts with what the teaser codes as jealousy, which adds a layer of irony the webtoon's readers will recognize.

A notable quality of the teaser is how closely the production has replicated the visual register of the original webtoon: Western-court architecture, elaborate period costuming, and dialogue that retains the theatrical formality of the source text. Lines like "I demand approval for remarriage" are delivered by the actors with the same heightened register they carry on the page. Whether that fidelity reads as exciting or slightly stagey will likely depend on how familiar a viewer is with the romance-fantasy genre, which has developed its own tonal conventions through years of webtoon publishing. This is the genre's first major live-action test at this budget level on a global streaming platform, and that alone makes the November release worth watching.

The cast's character posters

The character posters released alongside the teaser give each lead one defining line. Shin Min-a's Navier holds herself with formal composure above the copy "I demand approval for remarriage," communicating self-determination under pressure. Ju Ji-hoon's Sovieshu stares from his throne beneath "I must divorce the empress," the authority in the pose at odds with the instability the line implies. Lee Jong-suk's Heinrey is photographed mid-bow, hand raised as if to kiss someone's knuckles, with his greeting to Navier as the caption. Lee Se-young's Rashta radiates a lighter energy, her poster copy reading "Rashta is so happy these days," marking the character's shift from her circumstances before Sovieshu's favor.

The series is described by the production as a K-romфант (K-romance fantasy), a shorthand that has gained traction as the genre moves from webtoon platforms to streaming. The Remarried Empress premieres on Disney+ on November 4.
