Han Ga-in Returns to Korean Drama After 8 Years in Sinbyeong Season 4
ENA's military comedy Sinbyeong returns for its fourth season on the 24th, with lead actor Kim Min-ho promising the most entertaining run yet. Director Min Jin-gi called Season 4 the hardest of the franchise to produce, and actress Han Ga-in makes her first drama appearance in roughly eight years as a special guest.

ENA's military comedy Sinbyeong is back for a fourth season, and lead actor Kim Min-ho set the tone at the press conference held on the 24th at The Saint venue in Seoul's Guro district. "This isn't just something I'm saying," he told the assembled cast and press. "It's genuinely the most entertaining season yet. We've maximized everything you love about Sinbyeong, and there isn't a single second to breathe."

The show has run since 2022, built on a YouTube animated series of the same name, and follows recruit Park Min-seok, the son of a division commander, as he navigates the full spectrum of military life. That premise has kept a loyal audience across three seasons; Season 4, subtitled Sabotage, arrives with Park Min-seok promoted to corporal, new commanding officers, and a fresh recruit whose background is deliberately left murky at the outset.

What changed in Season 4
Director Min Jin-gi, who has helmed every season since the beginning, described the production as the most grueling of his career on the franchise. "Even the veteran actors who've actually served said it was harder than real military service," he said. "We poured everything we had into making it funnier." His framing of the subtitle is worth noting: sabotage derives from the French word sabot, meaning wooden clog, and came to describe workers deliberately slowing output as a form of resistance. Min adapted that logic for the barracks setting, describing soldiers who, for their own reasons, alternately obstruct and support the people around them as they grow. "We wanted to signal that this is a new story," he said, "not just another lap around the same track."

Kim Min-ho, who has now worn a military uniform across four seasons spanning four years, acknowledged the personal absurdity of that with some humor. "A close actor friend asked whether I'd been a draft dodger in a past life," he said. He also noted that the promotion his character receives within the story carries its own weight: three chevrons on the sleeve, he observed, feel different from one.

Kim Dong-jun returns as Jeon Se-gye, a character who entered the series as a sheltered recruit and has since settled into military life with what Kim described as perhaps too much ease. Oh Dae-hwan is back as company commander Jo Baek-ho, a consistently warm character now facing harder choices with the arrival of a new battalion commander. That commander, Byeon Hyeok-jin, is played by Lee Hyun-kyun, joining the franchise for the first time. Lee said he had been a fan of the show before being cast, and that reading the script gave him the confidence to take the role after initial nerves about fitting into an established ensemble. Lee Won-jung also joins as the mysterious new recruit Kim Hyeon-uk, a role he won through auditions; he noted the casting news arrived around his birthday.

Han Ga-in's return
The most discussed detail at the press conference was the special appearance of Han Ga-in, one of the more prominent names in Korean drama from the 2000s and early 2010s. She had briefly appeared in a previous season as a photograph, playing the sister of Kim Dong-jun's character, but Season 4 brings her on screen in person. Her last substantive drama role was in OCN's Mistress about eight years ago, making this a notable return by any measure.

Kim Dong-jun said Han Ga-in had floated the idea herself during an earlier conversation, asking whether she might visit the set if a fourth season happened. Director Min was more direct about her effect on the production: "The moment she arrived, the atmosphere of the entire set shifted, like we'd suddenly walked into a commercial shoot."

Nam Tae-woo rounds out the returning cast as Choi Il-gu, back with a promotion to sergeant after his arc in earlier seasons. The full ensemble appeared together at the press conference alongside Min, presenting what is, by the franchise's own standards, its most ambitious season to date. Whether the sabotage framing translates into a structural shift or simply a new coat of paint on a formula that has worked for four years is a question the broadcast will answer. Season 4 premiered on ENA on the evening of the 24th.
