Song Seung-heon posts quiet tribute as Nepal flood death toll passes 800

Actor Song Seung-heon posted a simple "#Pray for Nepal" on social media on the 30th, accompanied by a prayer emoji and no further explanation. The post came four days after a glacial collapse along the Nepal-Tibet border unleashed a wall of water and debris that has since become one of the deadliest natural disasters in the Himalayan region in decades.

The tribute was brief by design, and that restraint seemed to resonate. Followers responded with their own prayer emojis and comments: "My heart breaks seeing the news," wrote one user, while others offered "May God have mercy on everyone in Nepal" and "Let us pray together."

What happened on the 26th

The disaster began when glaciers in the high-altitude mountains along the Nepal-China border gave way, likely accelerated by ongoing glacial melt tied to rising temperatures. The resulting flood surge swept through downstream communities in both Nepal and China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

As of the morning of the 30th, confirmed deaths across both sides of the border stood at over 919, with nearly 4,793 people still unaccounted for. Among the missing, at least 592 were foreign nationals. The scale of the rescue operation remains enormous, with helicopters and drones deployed to reach communities cut off by the damage.

Song Seung-heon's career

Song Seung-heon, born in 1976, has been one of South Korea's most recognizable actors for three decades. He began as a model for clothing brand Storm in 1995 before transitioning to television, building his profile through the 1996 drama Men and Women. He went on to appear in a long string of popular projects including Autumn in My Heart, East of Eden, My Princess, and Voice Season 4, as well as films such as Addicted and The Face Reader.
