Ne-Yo says he has "always been a fan of Korea." He also happens to co-own a label with a Seoul branch and five Korean artists on its roster, so take the charm with context.

The R&B star made a surprise visit to Korea, his first since a 2024 concert tour stop, according to Star News. A video of him singing his hit "So Sick" in a shop spread across online communities and social media. On the 18th he appeared on the YouTube channel Psick Show, run by Psick University.

What he said

In a Korean magazine interview, Ne-Yo said Korea understands rhythm, tempo and melody in a way he has always liked. "Whenever I visit Korea, there is a real love for R&B," he said. "They don't just like it, they deeply understand and respect how it works." Working with young artists there, he added, was a "very natural choice."

On Psick Show, the writer-producer of "So Sick" and "Because of You" said he still writes songs, makes music for new artists and is building his label. "We put the team together with Korean partners," he said. "The goal is to develop good artists and make good music."

The label behind the trip

That label is Pacific Music Group (PMG), headquartered in Hong Kong. Ne-Yo co-founded it with Sonu Nigam and Jonathan Serbin. It has bases in Korea and Japan and has added Fyeqoodgurl from Thailand, Nasi from Taiwan and Zolie Chan from Hong Kong.

PMG Korea is where the Korean pieces sit. Its roster:

  • Tiffany Young, formerly of Girls' Generation, with a solo, acting and musical career

  • Brody, who produces, sings and plays guitar

  • Bang Yongguk

  • BRYN

  • Lil Cherry

The stated plan is to support those artists' creative work and use PMG's international network for collaborations and overseas openings. PMG says it will keep scouting artists across Asia.

A star dropping in, singing a hit in a shop and doing a popular YouTube show is good publicity for a young Korean branch. Whether it turns into releases is the part to watch.
