Season 3 of tvN's rural variety show Unni's Direct Delivery is making a confident case that a near-total cast overhaul doesn't have to mean a ratings reset. Episode 5, which aired on August 27, drew a nationwide average of 2.8% according to Nielsen Korea, up from 2.6% the week before, and ranked first in its time slot across cable and general programming channels in both national and metropolitan household figures. The show also topped the 2049 demographic for the same period, which is the key commercial target for tvN.

The turnaround context matters: Season 2, which ended in July last year, featured Yeom Jung-ah alongside Park Jun-myun, Lim Ji-yeon, and Lee Jae-wook. For Season 3, only Yeom Jung-ah returned, with Kim Sun-young, Kang You-seok, and Noh Yoon-seo joining as the new "four siblings." That's a significant gamble for a format built on ensemble chemistry, and episode 5 suggested the bet is paying off.

A feast, a band, and thirty-two cloves a minute

The episode opened at the cast's accommodation, where the group turned their lodgings into an informal Chinese restaurant they dubbed Unni's Banjeom (언니네 반점). Yeom Jung-ah anchored the meal with a Taean clam jjamppong made from more than thirteen ingredients, while guest Cho Jung-seok contributed tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and spicy stir-fried pepper beef. After dinner, the five of them formed a spontaneous band and held what the show framed as a midnight concert. Kang You-seok, clearly a fan, described Cho as "someone born with wit who always makes the people around him laugh."

The next morning, the group moved to Seosan for a garlic harvest under full summer sun. Noh Yoon-seo took on the production crew in a timed garlic-digging contest and pulled 32 bulbs in a single minute, winning by roughly double the crew's count. "I dug like a person who's lost it," she said afterward, apparently surprised by her own score. Cho Jung-seok, for his part, paused mid-row to break into an impromptu breakdance routine in the middle of the field. The group finished with nine 10-kilogram nets of garlic before Cho said his goodbyes. Kim Sun-young's parting words to him, "let's definitely meet in a project someday", landed warmly.

Retro photos and a very unwelcome guest

With Cho gone, the four siblings threw themselves into a themed photo shoot called "Back to the 6090", a nostalgic callback spanning the 1960s through the 1990s. Yeom Jung-ah styled herself after her Miss Korea era, Kim Sun-young transformed into a California-born character she named "Jenica Kim," Kang You-seok leaned into a 1970s tough-guy look, and Noh Yoon-seo, who studied fine arts, handled the group's styling herself and wore a 1990s girl-group concept. A fashion show followed, with Noh channeling Fin.K.L's Lee Hyori and Yeom Jung-ah stopping everything with red stockings and an a cappella twist dance.

The episode closed on a sharper note. While the cast was preparing dinner with their freshly harvested garlic, 족발and tray-style makguksu on the menu, Kim Sun-young spotted a snake inside one of the rooms and bolted out the door. The scene reportedly turned chaotic almost immediately, with Kang You-seok stepping up to deal with the snake while the rest of the cast urged him not to. The cliffhanger ended the episode there, leaving the resolution for next week.

For a season that essentially launched with a new lineup, the consistency in time-slot rankings is a reasonable sign that the show's format, ordinary farm work, genuine cooking, and the specific chaos that comes from throwing actors into the countryside together, is doing its job regardless of who's in the cast.
