JYP Drops Xdinary Heroes Leader Gun-il Same Day as Fan Backlash Audio Surfaces
Xdinary Heroes drummer and leader Gun-il has left the group and terminated his exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment, effective immediately. The departure follows an online controversy involving leaked audio that allegedly captures him making derogatory remarks about fans. The band has also pulled out of Summer Sonic 2026 as a direct result.

Xdinary Heroes' Gun-il is out, and it happened fast. JYP Entertainment announced on August 13 that Gun-il has left the group and terminated his exclusive contract with the label, effective the same day, after an audio controversy involving alleged comments about fans spread through online communities.

The statement from JYP was deliberate but vague. The label said it "deeply recognized the gravity of the situation," conducted "extensive discussions from multiple angles" with the artist, and ultimately concluded that continuing as a team was no longer viable. Both sides agreed to the contract termination. JYP did not name the specific issue that triggered the decision, though the context made it plain enough.
What circulated online was a recording posted by someone claiming to be Gun-il's ex-girlfriend. The clip allegedly features a male voice making disparaging remarks about Xdinary Heroes fans. JYP has not confirmed that the voice on the recording belongs to Gun-il, and that verification remains unresolved. What wasn't unresolved, apparently, was the label's calculation about what came next.
The consequences landed immediately. Summer Sonic 2026 announced the same afternoon that Xdinary Heroes had been removed from the lineup. The festival had them scheduled for the Tokyo Pacific Stage on August 14 and the Osaka Massive Stage on August 16. Both appearances are cancelled.
Gun-il, born in 1998, was the group's leader and drummer. He studied at Berklee College of Music before debuting with Xdinary Heroes in 2021 as part of the original six-member lineup. In January this year, he performed with the group at their first Japan solo concerts in Osaka and Yokohama. As recently as April, he participated in activities for the band's eighth mini-album DEAD AND.
With Gun-il gone, Xdinary Heroes reorganizes around the remaining five: Jungsu, Gaon, O.de, Jun Han, and Jooyeon. It's the first time the group has operated outside its original six-member structure in nearly five years since debuting. JYP said it will "spare no effort" to support the members as they continue music activities in the new configuration.
The label's apology to fans was brief and standard-issue. Whether the remaining members can stabilize quickly is the more pressing question, starting with whatever replaces two Summer Sonic stages next week.
