A2O SOUL's lead single "SUPERSTAR" reached No. 2 on China's QQ Music new-song chart and No. 18 on YouTube's trending music list, and the 15-member boy group has not yet released its debut album. That album, also titled SUPERSTAR, arrives on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. KST on major streaming platforms in Korea and abroad.

The early returns are specific. "SUPERSTAR" also placed No. 6 on QQ Music's popular-song chart and No. 4 on its global music video chart. On the new-song chart, it sat at No. 2 right beside "NEON" by labelmate A2O LITE, which took No. 1, so the agency's artists held the top two spots together.

Five tracks, two title songs

The single was released first on the 13th. The album carries five tracks in total, led by the title track "SUPERSTAR" and a second title track, "Dancing in the Dark." Both are meant to showcase what the group calls NEW SYNTHWAVE, the genre label A2O SOUL uses for its sound.

The lineup is large: Moon, Tai, Kaku, Siwon, Seoha, Sono, Lucien, Jai, Aiden, Allure, Jett, Sora, Teo, Jun and Hanseong. How a 15-person roster and a concept-heavy identity translate into a five-song record is one of the open questions around this release.

Who is behind the sound

Lee Soo-man served as key producer and set the musical direction for the album. Around that, the project brought in international songwriters who had not worked with him before, pairing creators from different backgrounds.

The credits on "SUPERSTAR" show the range. Producer Yoo Young-jin is listed, along with HAAN, who worked on the global hit "STAY" by The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber, and GENT!, who has contributed to music by Drake and Doja Cat. The credits for the second title track and the remaining songs have not been detailed.

How to buy it

Physical copies come in three versions: two photobook editions and one platform album edition. Pre-orders are open through major online and offline retailers in Korea and overseas.

The debut math looks favorable. A lead single placing in the top six of two separate QQ Music charts before release suggests solid pre-album interest in China, and that is a reasonable signal to watch when first-week numbers come in after Nov. 9.
