Broadcaster and simultaneous interpreter Ahn Hyun-mo signed an exclusive contract with SM C&C on the 15th, the agency confirmed. The signing places her on one of Korea's most prominent entertainment rosters, alongside veterans like Kang Ho-dong, Jeon Hyun-moo, Seo Jang-hoon, Jang Sung-kyu, and Jang Do-yeon.

Ahn's path to that roster is less typical than most. She graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in linguistics, then completed a master's in conference interpretation at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. From there she worked as an SBS news reporter before pivoting to simultaneous interpretation and, eventually, to broadcasting full time. It is a career sequence that speaks to how the Korean entertainment industry increasingly values presenter-intellectuals over pure performance backgrounds.

A career built across formats

On the broadcast side, Ahn has appeared on a range of programs: Channel A's Beauty Clinic Touch Me, KBS2's Smoking Gun, SBS's Sapiens Club, and tvN's Future Class, among others. Her roles have shifted between host and panelist depending on the format, and she has shown a particular ease with topics that require some technical grounding.

The interpretation work is where her profile becomes distinctive. She has served as interpreter for live broadcasts of the Academy Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, the American Music Awards, and the Grammy Awards, four of the most-watched awards ceremonies in the world. She also handled interpretation and hosting duties at the APEC CEO Summit Korea 2025, an international economic forum that demands both precision and composure under pressure.

What SM C&C is backing

SM C&C described Ahn as "a versatile talent with broad knowledge and careful hosting ability," and said the agency would provide full support for her to expand activity across multiple fields. For an agency whose roster leans heavily toward variety show veterans and experienced MCs, Ahn's combination of academic credentials, news journalism, and international interpretation experience fills a niche that few in the industry occupy.

The broader context is that Korean broadcasters and agencies have been actively recruiting presenters who can operate credibly across domestic variety and international-facing formats. Ahn's work at global awards shows and APEC positions her well for exactly that kind of dual-track activity.
