Seungri's Baby News Lands Two Months After a New Assault Lawsuit Was Filed

Former BIGBANG member Seungri is reportedly about to become a father in January, and the same week the news broke he is still fighting an assault lawsuit filed in August. On the 26th, Gray News reported that the 36-year-old (legal name Lee Seung-hyun) and his girlfriend, a non-celebrity in her 20s, are expecting a son.

The couple has reportedly set up a home in Gangnam, Seoul, and plans to hold a wedding after the baby is born. Nothing else is known about the girlfriend beyond her age and the fact that she is not in the entertainment industry.

The outlet says it learned of the pregnancy while interviewing Seungri about the lawsuit. He reportedly told them he "has a family to protect." The outlet is led by editor-in-chief Lee Se-wook, who previously ran the YouTube channel Caracula (over a million subscribers), and it is understood to have done the reporting itself. Neither Seungri nor a representative has been reported to confirm the news.

The backdrop

Seungri debuted with BIGBANG in 2006 and became hugely popular. In 2019 he was named a central figure in the Burning Sun scandal, left the group and was pushed out of the entertainment industry. He was indicted on nine charges, including prostitution, procuring prostitution, violating the sexual violence punishment act and habitual gambling. In May 2022 the Supreme Court finalized a sentence of one year and six months. He was released in February 2023.

In August this year he was sued on charges of special assault, special intimidation and special confinement. The complaint alleges he assaulted a man in his 30s, identified as A, while the two were drinking at a restaurant in Gangnam. Seungri denies the charges.
