Min Kyung-hoon steps back from Knowing Brothers after 11 years, but it's not a goodbye
Min Kyung-hoon, one of the original cast members of JTBC's long-running variety show Knowing Brothers, has finished his last recording and will be absent from the show for the foreseeable future. JTBC clarified the move is a temporary break rather than a full departure, though the distinction may matter less to viewers who have watched him shape the show since its December 2015 premiere.

Min Kyung-hoon has wrapped his final recording for JTBC's Knowing Brothers, stepping away from the variety show where he has been a fixture since its very first episode in December 2015. JTBC, however, pushed back against initial reports framing the move as a full exit, describing it instead as a temporary rest period.

The distinction carries some weight, though the practical outcome is the same in the near term: Min Kyung-hoon will be off the show for the foreseeable future, with special guest members expected to fill his seat while he recharges.
Eleven years as a constant
Min Kyung-hoon is best known outside variety circles as the lead vocalist of the group Buzz, a position that came with a stage presence built on intensity and control. Knowing Brothers gave him a different register entirely. His unpredictable answers and a tendency to say the unexpected thing at the exact wrong moment became one of the show's reliable comic currents, working in contrast to the more calculated comedic styles of castmates like Kang Ho-dong and Lee Soo-geun. Over nearly eleven years, he built that character gradually alongside the show's core lineup of Kang Ho-dong, Lee Soo-geun, Seo Jang-hoon, Kim Hee-chul, and Kim Young-chul.
The show holds a particular significance for him beyond professional credits. Min Kyung-hoon met JTBC producer Shin Gi-eun through the program, and the two married in November 2024. He announced the engagement to his castmates on air, a choice that said something about how central the show had become to his life outside of it.

A cast in transition
Knowing Brothers has been navigating a shifting lineup for some time. Kim Hee-chul stepped back earlier this year for health reasons, and Min Kyung-hoon's absence adds a second gap among the original cohort. Of the founding members, Kang Ho-dong, Lee Soo-geun, Seo Jang-hoon, and Kim Young-chul remain. Lee Sang-min joined in March 2016, and Kim Shin-young came on board as a new member in May.
The back-to-back departures of two original members within a short window will test the show's ability to hold its identity. Long-running Korean variety programs tend to depend heavily on the accumulated chemistry of a fixed cast, and that dynamic takes time to rebuild when it's disrupted. Whether the current configuration and incoming guest members can sustain the show's rhythm is the more interesting question now that the formalities of Min Kyung-hoon's hiatus have been sorted out.
