Baby Shark Boy Makes His Music Debut with a Self-Written Single Featuring Monsta X's Jooheon
The boy who appeared in Pinkfong's record-breaking Baby Shark video a decade ago is stepping back into the spotlight as a recording artist. Baby Shark Boy will release his debut digital single 'WAVE' on August 20, co-written by the artist himself and featuring Monsta X's Jooheon.

The boy who danced alongside Baby Shark in 2016 is releasing his first single on August 20 at noon KST, and his name this time is Baby Shark Boy.
The Pinkfong Company announced on August 10 that the debut digital single, titled WAVE, marks the first release under the company's artist project initiative, which connects its global intellectual property with the real-life stories of the people who helped build it.
The original Pinkfong Baby Shark video, published in 2016, has now surpassed 17 billion views on YouTube and has held the platform's all-time most-viewed position for 69 consecutive months. Baby Shark Boy appeared in that video as a child and returned last year for a short-form anniversary piece marking Baby Shark's 10th year, which drew 22 million views on its own. That cameo was the early indicator. A 22-million-view short in 2025 for a decade-old IP is not nostalgia traffic; it is an audience telling a company something.
WAVE is co-written by Baby Shark Boy himself, and the song draws on the experience of returning to public life after a decade away from the stage. Monsta X member Jooheon features on the track, giving it a credible foothold in the K-pop ecosystem beyond the Pinkfong fanbase.
The Pinkfong Company plans to support the release with both a music video and a behind-the-scenes documentary titled WAVE: A Boy's Record, which will trace his journey growing up alongside the Baby Shark IP. The documentary release window has not yet been announced.
In a statement, Baby Shark Boy said he has always been grateful that people continued to remember a video he filmed as a child. "If I danced next to Baby Shark ten years ago," he said, "now I wanted to share my own voice and the stories I wrote myself. I'm happy to begin something new with the people who have remembered me all this time."
The debut math is straightforward: a built-in global audience, a K-pop feature credit, and a co-writing credit on track one. Whether Baby Shark Boy can hold that audience beyond the nostalgia cycle will depend on what comes after WAVE, but the foundation is real and the reach is already there.
