Warner Bros. Korea has set August 16 as the release date for the Korean remake of The Intern, starring Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee in a generational odd-couple pairing that should raise a few eyebrows among fans of the 2015 Hollywood original.

The setup flips the expected casting logic. Han So-hee plays Sunwoo, the driven CEO of a fashion company, while Choi Min-sik takes on the role of Giho, a 37-year career veteran who arrives as the office's newest and youngest-ranked intern. That age-and-rank inversion is the film's central tension, and putting one of Korean cinema's most decorated actors in the subordinate seat is a deliberate piece of casting.

The original The Intern, directed by Nancy Meyers, starred Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro and opened in 2015. It earned roughly $194 million worldwide against a $35 million production budget, more than five times its cost, and drew over 3.6 million admissions in South Korea alone. It remains one of the more warmly remembered Hollywood comedies of that decade.

The Korean version is directed by Kim Do-young, who helmed What If We, the domestic sleeper hit of 2025. The supporting cast includes Kim Jun-han, Ryu Hye-young, and Kim Geum-soon.

Distribution is handled by Warner Bros. Korea in partnership with Anthology Studio. The film opens nationwide on August 16.
