Hwang Jung-min's Agency Confirms Stalking Allegations Amid Online Abuse

Hwang Jung-min's agency, Sam Company, has publicly addressed alleged stalking claims on July 29th, stating that the individual responsible for spreading defamatory posts has been a persistent stalker. The statement comes amid a wave of online accusations directed at the acclaimed actor, particularly around the release of his new film, Hope.

The agency emphasized that Hwang took legal action against the individual last year. They reported that the court has already issued protective orders against this person, who is recognized as a stalking perpetrator, affirming the severity of the allegations. Furthermore, a fine of 3 million won (approximately $2,250) was imposed on the accused following a preliminary examination of the case.

In response to the harmful posts, Sam Company announced intentions to pursue further legal measures against maliciously edited content. They expressed regret for any distress these issues may have caused to Hwang and his supporters.

Simultaneously, the production and distribution companies behind Hope, Plus M Entertainment and Forged Films, echoed this sentiment by announcing their discontent over the situation. They stated that the stalker’s actions have not only impeded the film’s promotional activities but have also harmed the reputations of those involved in the project. They highlighted the deliberate effort to undermine the film's success during this crucial period ahead of its release.

On the same day, an online user made claims of being romantically involved with Hwang Jung-min, presenting supposed text messages and call logs as evidence. However, these assertions are now framed within the context of stalking and harassment, further complicating the situation for the actor.

As Hope, directed by Na Hong-jin, continues its screening in theaters after its debut on July 15th, the focus shifts from the film itself to the troubling behaviors that can arise in the online sphere.
