Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin Reunite After 10 Years in MBC's Liar
Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin reunite after a decade for MBC's psychological thriller Liar. Both say the long gap left their trust intact. The drama premieres October 30.

Seo Hyun-jin says working again with Yoo Yeon-seok gave her confidence that "whatever I do, he'll catch it well." The two actors are reuniting after 10 years for MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama Liar, which premieres on Friday, October 30 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
The pairing is the main selling point of the series, and the leads have been open about why it works. For years, Korean networks have leaned on actors with established chemistry for tense, two-hander dramas, where much of the drama rests on a single pair of performances.
Liar is described as a high-density psychological thriller. Its two central characters, Min Jun-ho (Yoo Yeon-seok) and Kang Ji-seon (Seo Hyun-jin), give completely opposite accounts of the same memory and collide fiercely as each pushes toward what they believe is the truth. The series is directed by Cho Young-min from a script by Baek Jae-young, with Lee Dae-yong credited with planning.
What the leads say about each other
Yoo Yeon-seok said the reunion felt welcoming rather than awkward. "Even though we met again after 10 years, it felt more pleasant and comfortable than unfamiliar," he said. Because of the mutual trust, he added, they could lean on each other in emotionally difficult scenes and draw acting energy from one another.
He singled out Seo's sensitivity as a scene partner. According to Yoo, tension and shifting emotions between the two characters are central to this project, and Seo takes in the other person's words and actions very keenly while still conveying her own emotions with great intensity.
Seo Hyun-jin described a gradual shift in her impressions. Early on, she noticed ways Yoo had changed, which she said made watching his acting enjoyable. As filming went on, she found she could act with confidence in him, and that it felt easy.
She also credited him as an active collaborator. "I felt he's an actor who firmly does his part," she said, adding that he offers many ideas on set, which made scenes richer. Then came the line that sums up the partnership: whatever performance she tried, she trusted he would receive it well. "I was really grateful for that," she said.
