Belift Lab launched Break Whistle on the 8th, a mobile rhythm game designed around ILLIT's 5th mini album Break Even, which is due out on the 26th. It's an unusually direct translation of an album concept into an interactive format, and the gameplay mechanics actually map onto the record's emotional core.

The premise is straightforward: players relive memories of someone they loved, and every time a memory surfaces, they blow a whistle in time with the music to cut it off. The background track is the melody from the title song 체포하겠어, and scattered throughout the stages as collectible memory fragments are callbacks to ILLIT's earlier work, including story elements, lyrics, and visual symbols from past music videos.

Three stages, three emotional registers

What gives the game a little more shape than a standard promotional tie-in is the difficulty structure. The three stages map directly onto Break Even's concept phases: Burning, Quiet, and Mad. As the emotional intensity escalates across stages, so does the rhythm challenge, which is a neat way to let the album's mood arc do design work.

Once a run ends, players see their score alongside ILLIT concept photos and a percentile ranking that shows where they land among everyone who has played. It's a small touch, but the competitive element gives fans a reason to keep coming back rather than experiencing the game once and moving on.

Break Even is framed around a self-directed attitude toward love, Belift Lab says, and the whistle mechanic fits that theme neatly. ILLIT releases the album on the 26th.
