Singer Jang Jane had a simple answer when she found a note about her fashion choices in her own online profile: "Can't a woman just live comfortably? I live freely. What's the big deal?"

The moment came in a video posted on September 23 to her YouTube channel Singer-Songwriter Jane, titled What If Jang Jane Handed Out Flyers in Hongdae, How Many People Would Come? The premise was exactly what it sounds like: ahead of a spontaneous guerrilla performance in the Hongdae area, she made the flyers herself and walked the streets distributing them to passersby.

A very honest afternoon in Hongdae

While pulling together promotional materials, Jane ended up browsing her Namu Wiki profile and spotted the line describing her as someone who "enjoys wearing no-bra fashion." She paused, looked at the camera, and asked with visible surprise, "Is it okay for this to go on YouTube?", then immediately followed it with the now-quotable response about living on her own terms.

Her pre-show nerves were just as candid. "It's a Monday, so I'm wondering if anyone will even be in Hongdae," she said, "and whether young people will recognize me, and whether anyone will come out for just one song." To hedge against being a complete stranger to anyone she approached, she prepared a backup pitch: "I'll introduce myself as the Superstar K Jang Jane. And if that doesn't work, I'll promote through John Park, Huh Gak, Kang Seung-yoon, and Kim Ji-soo. It's been a long time since I was active."

That self-deprecating honesty is very much part of her charm. While handing out flyers, she also came across an old photo of herself busking in Hongdae during her Superstar K 2 days in 2010, when she placed in the top three on the Mnet audition series. "Don't I look exactly the same?" she said, comparing her face from roughly 15 years ago to the present.

Eleven people, and genuine gratitude

Jane had estimated the crowd at around three. The actual turnout was 11, and she was genuinely moved. "So many people came," she said, thanking everyone who showed up.

The video arrives at an active moment for her: she has been open about preparing new music, and recently drew attention after sharing photos from an upcoming album shoot that featured a noticeably bold concept. She had also mentioned losing 7 kilograms in a month during the preparation period, and the shoot styling leaned into that change.

For fans who have followed her since her Superstar K 2 breakthrough, the Hongdae video is a reminder of why she built a devoted following in the first place, not through polished image management, but through the kind of straightforward, slightly self-roasting openness that makes a Monday afternoon flyer run feel worth watching.
