Jang Yoon-joo Reveals How Prejudice Against Models Affected Her Relationships

Jang Yoon-joo has candidly shared her struggles with societal prejudice surrounding her profession as a model, revealing how it impacted her relationships and experiences with her in-laws.

In a recent video on her YouTube channel, Yoonjure: Jang Yoon-joo, she looked back on her romantic history while discussing marriage and family introductions.

"When my boyfriend introduced me to his parents, they often didn’t take a liking to me," she recalled, noting the bias many people held regarding her profession. She added, "I've heard comments like, 'I saw models in magazines, and they were undressed. I don't want that kind of person in my family.'"

Jang reflected on the shift in societal perceptions of models since the early years of her career, expressing that she often felt judged without being truly known. "I experienced a lot of hurt and felt unwelcome because people would assess me solely based on my job. There were times I cried over that reality."

Even when preparing to marry her current husband, Jung Seung-min, she faced apprehensions from his family. "When Seung-min told his mother that he wanted to marry me, she worried, 'Is it alright for someone with that profession to join our family?'"

However, a turning point came when Jang and her mother-in-law appeared on an EBS program together, showcasing their everyday lives. Jang explained, "After seeing our family's normal routine, her perspective shifted."

Seung-min took the initiative to show his parents the broadcast, emphasizing that Jang wasn't a lavish person but lived a grounded life. "Watching the show changed my in-laws' outlook," she shared.

Now happily married since 2015 to the four years younger designer, Jung Seung-min, the couple has a daughter together. Jang Yoon-joo’s story highlights the importance of understanding and acceptance beyond preconceived notions, making it a powerful narrative for many in similar situations.
